Survivor is an American version of the Survivor reality television game show based on the Swedish television series Expedition Robinson, originally created in 1992 by Charlie Parsons.
The show is based on stranding a group of strangers as one or more tribes in a remote location, where they must fend for food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves, while competing in challenges to earn rewards and immunity from being voted off by the tribe in progressive eliminations.
The last challenger remaining at the end of the competition wins the $1-million prize and title of Sole Survivor.
Survivor premiered in the USA on CBS on 31 May, 2000. Host/producer Jeff Probst has signed a contract to host the show until its 20th season.

Season 12
Survivor: Panama - Exile Island is the 12th season of Survivor, and takes place in the Pearl Islands, off the coast of Panama.
This location was previously used for Survivor: Pearl Islands, Survivor: All-Stars, Survivor South Africa: Panama and Survivor Africa: Panama.
Filming began on 31 October 2005 and the season premiered in the US on 2 February 2006.
A new element was introduced to this season of Survivor - Exile Island, a small, desolate piece of rock to which one castaway is banished each week between the Reward Challenge and the Immunity Challenge.
Although survival is tough on Exile Island, being sent there is not necessarily the worst thing - hidden on Exile Island is an Immunity Idol. Whoever finds it does not need to reveal that they have it, and can produce it at any Tribal Council after the votes have been read by Jeff.
The hidden Immunity Idol can only be used up to and including the Final Four - thereafter it cannot be used.
If someone produces the hidden Immunity Idol after receiving the most votes, the person with the next most votes is voted out of the game.
The 16 players will be split into four tribes by sex and age: young men, older men, young women, and older women.
