It's Complicated is a South African television drama series produced by Fuzebox which follows the lives of seven Jozi characters who are dealt with life challenges while they are busy making plans.
Confronted with the choices of love and marriage, family and friendship, loyalty and expectation, they face off against the future.
The story begins with perfectionist Ipeleng (Fikile Mthwalo) questioning her seven year relationship with Mr Nice guy, Thato (Siyabonga Radebe). She is pressured by her mother to get married and fears that time is running out.
As Ipeleng and Thato search for answers, so does girl next door Mandisa (Samela Tyelbooi), who quits her steady job to follow a dream.
Her bold move weighs heavily on her relationship with her live-in boyfriend, hustler Thabang (Motlatsi Mafatshe), whose promising potential must now translate into real tangible success. Can true love survive against all odds?
One person who doesn't understand the fuss when it comes to matters of the heart is good-time social butterfly and celeb wannabe, Matli (Pabi Moganedi).
As life happens, the three women find themselves in a sisterhood of sorts.
Rounding off the world of It's Complicated is good-looking and arrogant Vumani (Atandwa Kani), a football star who judges all women on the standard set by the money-hungry mother of his only child.
Bad-boy Vumani is a self-confessed womaniser and he's not planning to change his ways any time soon. But faced with the possibility of a career-ending injury and the prospect of life off the field, he is forced to re-evaluate what he once thought he knew, with surprising results.
The starring cast includes Fikile Mthwalo as Ipeleng, Siyabonga Radebe as Thato, Thishiwe Ziqubu as Ntandokazi, Samela Tyelbooi as Mandisa, Motlatsi Mafatshe as Thabang, Paballo Moganedi as Matli and Atandwa Kani as Vumani. Austin Shandu joined the starring cast in Season 2 as Nqobizitha.
It's Complicated is produced for Mzansi Magic by Kethiwe Ngcobo and Mokopi Shale of Fuzebox Productions. Season 1 was directed by Norman Maake and Nqobile 'Que' Ntuli and written by Ayanda Halimana. Season 2 directors include Maake, Myrto Makrides and Zuko Nodada and the head writer was Mokopi Shale.
