Description

Girls is an American dark comedy-drama television series created by and starring Lena Dunham and inspired by some of Dunham's real-life experiences, that follows a close group of twenty-something friends as they chart their lives in New York City.

Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna are trying to figure life out. They've been living in New York for a couple of years, but they're still not sure what they want - from boys, from each other, from themselves.

And things aren't getting any clearer.

Created by and starring Lena Dunham, the show is a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s.

As the series opens, Hannah, a 24-year-old aspiring writer living in New York City, is blindsided when her parents cut her off financially.

Subsequently fired from her unpaid internship, she seeks comfort in Adam, the eccentric actor she sometimes sleeps with when she can get him to respond to her texts.

Meanwhile, Hannah's best friend and Type-A roommate, Marnie, hosts a dinner party for their bohemian British friend Jessa, who's returned from god-knows-where to move in with Shoshanna, Jessa's younger, Sex and the City-obsessed cousin.

Dunham wrote and directed the pilot of the series, which she executive produces along with Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner.

The cast also includes Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams, Adam Driver and Zosia Mamet. Recurring guest stars include Chris Abbott and Alex Karpovsky.

Created by and starring Lena Dunham, Dunham, Judd Apatow, Jenni Konner, Ilene S. Landress and Bruce Eric Kaplan executive produce the show. The series is shot in New York.

Broadcast Notes

The first two seasons of Girls aired on M-Net, with a repeat on M-Net Series Showcase in Season 2. First-run rights moved to the latter for Season 3 and again to M-Net Edge for Season 4, after M-Net Series Showcase became defunct in 2014.
