About the Show

According to the creators of 2DTV the programme is "the World's first topical animated sketch show."

It's been likened to the highly successful satire Spitting Image, only instead of puppets 2DTV uses a combination of traditional animation combined with proprietary computer software which results in an animation style never seen before.

The show satirises a wide variety of celebrities and public figures, a high proportion of whom are British, and is highly topical - half of the content for each episode is written and animated three days before transmission, allowing the writers to react to the latest international and national news and breaking stories.

More than 400 characters have been created since 2DTV premiered in October 2001. More than eight million viewers tuned in for the first episode and it is now the most successful British animated series ever made.

Amongst the celebrities caricatured are British prime minister Tony Blair and a gaggle of cabinet ministers; the Queen and associated royalty including a naked Fergie and two very wild princes; Elton John; Geri Halliwell; Weakest Link presenter Anne Robinson; Michael Jackson; Uri Geller; Will Young and Gareth Gates of Pop Idol, as well as the two presenters of that show, Ant and Dec; Jennifer Lopez; Guy Ritchie; Madonna; Tom Cruise; talk show host Michael Parkinson; nervy tennis player Tim Henman and slightly less nervy Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf (who has a monster nose); Osama bin Laden (who is constantly escaping capture); Saddam Hussein (who is constantly trying to escape from prison); Kylie Minogue; a stuttering Hugh Grant; foul-mouthed Ozzy Osbourne; reality judge Simon Cowell; a host of football stars and a recurring formula one theme, in which Scot David Coulthard is constantly losing to German ex-world champion Michael Schumacher.

It originally started out as a six-part series of 10-minute episodes on ITV, but grew into a half hour slot which is now in its fifth season in the United Kingdom.
