Helen thinks she has attained the perfect life when she moves with her handsome, well-to-do new husband to his family's beautiful Kentucky horse breeding ranch, Kilronan.
But her new mother-in-law, Martha, grande dame of the estate, is passionately devoted to her only son and determined to direct his future.
Soon Helen begins to suspect that Martha has engineered a variety of troubling coincidences and told lies in an attempt to undermine her marriage.
As Martha's manipulation escalates, Helen is lured into a web of deceit and betrayal until she discovers, almost too late, that her mother-in-law is not only disturbed but dangerous.
Ultimately the young woman finds herself trapped in a desperate fight for her marriage, her newborn baby and her life.
