James Badge Dale as Will Travers: the Julian Assange of the story.

There's a cool new series starting on M-Net Action soon called Rubicon.

Unfortunately you might not like it because it seems very few people do.

I'm one of them. Who likes it.

I'm hooked.

This is the scenario: a drama series which centres on an intelligence analyst at a national think tank in New York City called the American Policy Institute (API) who discovers that he may be working with members of a secret society that manipulates world events on a grand scale.

The first season aired for 13 episodes and was cancelled because of poor ratings - which sucks.

I've seen the first four episodes and got pulled in completely because I know there are conspiracies everywhere and the show's all about the fact that they really do exist.

Look around you for a moment wherever you are ... *please do, work with me* .... who's actually working, socialising, whatever they're doing ... and who's working for a secret agency? Spying on you. Watching to see if you're trying to browse to WikiLeaks so that they can launch a smear campaign against you?

It seems far-fetched not so? But it isn't.

The trouble for the series is that isn't action-filled. Instead it's slower, more suspicous, dark and brooding almost.

As much as I lurve the bah-bah-bah of action, I really groove on how different the show is in terms of pace, style and mood but sadly this wasn't what the majority of audiences wanted from it.

It has lots of WikiLeaks-type moments, double-agents and dead bodies but in between it's more silent than most series. Very cool. But I've also realised that it won't appeal to everyone.

For instance, there are moments where Will does very small things and takes a while to do them, which freaks me out bigtime tension-wise, but others prefer tension to have more action.

Check it out when it starts and see what you think. If you don't stick with it, take one thing from it: never trust that you know what's actually going on. Ever.

I've accepted this now and it's brought a sense of massive relief. If I know I don't know, then at least I'm armed with the knowledge.

It premieres on Action on Thursday, 6 January 2011 at 18h00. For more, see: TVSA's Rubicon Mini-Site.
