After a tense tribal council on Sunday night, 29 year-old sculptor
Sam Allerton was the second contestant to be voted out of
Survivor South Africa: Panama.
Sam's fate seems to have been sealed during an incident at camp, when tempers frayed as he tangled with
Mzi about building a fire. The incident left the tribe divided, and Sam's apparent closeness with fellow tribe member
Brigitte didn't help his cause.
After the flare-up, Sam knew he was in with a chance of being voted off, and immediately set about trying to form alliances. He spent the day trying to convince
Nico,
Sanele and
Jude to vote
Vanessa out, because of her perceived lack of usefulness.
The cause was lost, though, and at the tribal council the Aguilans explained that rebuilding the tribe was more important to them than losing one of their strongest members.
This week's immunity challenge was Drag The Cannon. This challenge saw the tribes having to work as a team, with one member from each side tied to a cannon, which they and their tribe would have to drag over a tricky course. The first tribe to reach the finish line, with all their members over the line, would win.
The teams were neck-and-neck until the final bend, when Rana's slick planning and teamwork showed as they powered over the line to claim their first immunity win.
The tribes also met for their first reward challenge in the series, having to play Reverse Sumo for a reward of a flint and fishing net. The challenge pitted the contestants against each other one-on-one, as they battled to out-power each other while tied together with rope.
Pulling in opposite directions, the first to reach a stake placed a short distance away from the starting circle would win. Best of 5 saw Aguila win, and claim the valuable reward.
Fans eager to meet the voted-off Survivor South Africa contestants have a chance to see them – sans sand fleas and smelling slightly better than on the show – at the first of the "Tribe Has Spoken" afterparties.
