As you've probably heard on the news, Oscar Pistorius has been arrested and charged with murder after his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was found shot at his home in Pretoria today.

29-year-old Reeva was a model who was supposed to make her TV debut as a celebrity contestant on the new fifth season of Tropika Island of Treasure. The season is scheduled to start on SABC1 this Saturday (16 February) at 18h30 and was filmed in Jamaica late last year.

Series creator and executive producer Samantha Moon released this statement earlier today:

We are absolutely devastated at the tragic loss of Reeva Steenkamp, our friend and beloved member of the Tropika Island of Treasure 5 family. Reeva was a wonderful human being and an extremely talented and intelligent woman. Her kind and loving spirit was evident to all who knew her and her zest for life will be truly missed.

We are blessed and privileged to have known her. Words cannot express how saddened we are by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Reeva’s family and friends.

There's no word on whether or not the series will go ahead on Saturday. It's all been pre-filmed and it's a competition so the show can't edit or change things. If it it airs it would air as it would have if Reeva were alive.

Word from a source close to the show is that the production will be making a decision about the season's future on Friday.

What do you think the decision should be be? Should it go ahead or be cancelled?

I think she would have wanted the season to go on but I am of the opinion that the producers cannot make a decision in isolation. They should consult her family first. However, that may be taken as insensitive by her family though

As they say in showbiz, the show must go on

I  also think the show should be AIRED!!! it is a TRAGEDY for the family that she passed on shame but she went to the Island because she wanted to be a part of TIOT. If they feel seeing her on TV will be too much for the family then they may not watch!!

I think if she was my family I would allow that it be played. She had to much to live for. She was young, talented and beautiful!!! Show casing the REAL person she was wouldn't be such a BAD thing to do!!!

I agree with you Chix

The show should just go on! Production is money! Surely she signed a release form cause they already spent money for the show. Yes it was a tragedy but it's memorial of her. It was her first debut let her fans embrace this moments

Very well said Tha2. Let fans have a last look at the bubbly Reeva and celebrate her through the show. At the end of each episode, they can write "In loving memory of Reeva Steenkamp"

Ja, I also think it should have been postponed until after her funeral.

But remember guys this is TV, they cant halt schedules because of that.continuing with the show will help us celebrate her life and contributions to entertainment. Its like in Soapies, If you die they dont cut your scenes out until after the funeral. they play on and put the "In loving memory of" at the end of the show...TIOT should continue as planned...

I think they should air it as well! Just to show the type of person she was and showcase to south africa her personality and her beauty. I've read things about her since the murder and it looks like she truly was a great person... Who knows it might even generate support on her side in the murder case against Oscar.
