Although there have been dark mutterings about Prison Break coming to SABC3 for a while now, for the first time we are able to reveal that the smash-hit con-romp will premiere on SABC3 on Wednesday 23 April, the week after the Jericho season finale.

The channel is already hitting on potential advertisers for the show, which has proved a strong attraction on M-Net since it premiered in January 2006.

Season 3 premiered on the pay channel on Tuesday 5 February, 2008.

News of the premiere date on SABC3 was confirmed by Gesh Conco, Communications Manager for the channel.

"SABC3's very proud to have acquired the property - it's part of our strategy to remain the channel with soul and substance," Conco told TVSA.

Here's a brief synopsis of the first season:

Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is accused of the murder of Terence Steadman (John Billingsley), who is the brother of the Vice President of the United States.

With strong evidence supporting the charges of first degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm against him, Lincoln is sentenced to death and is sent to the Fox River State Penitentiary to await his execution.

Lincoln's brother, Michael Scofield (hottie Wentworth Miller), is convinced of Lincoln's innocence and hatches an escape plan.

After installing himself at Fox River, time works against Michael as he must overcome various obstacles and make the right connections among the inmates and prison staff to be successful in breaking out his brother.

The protagonists are aided by their lifelong friend Veronica Donovan (Robin Tunney), who begins to investigate the conspiracy that put Lincoln in jail. However, they are hindered by covert agents, who belong to an organisation known as The Company.

Each week another piece of Michael's puzzle falls into place as he masterminds the ultimate prison break and attempts to solve the conspiracy that put Lincoln on death row in the first place

A wonderful cast of memorable supporting characters includes Peter Stormare as John Abruzzi, the leader of the Chicago mafia; Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), Scofield's love-sick cellmate; white supremacist rapist Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Knepper), one of the most outstanding TV villains of all time; and brutal, corrupt prison guard Captain Brad Bellick (Wade Williams).

If you don't have M-Net or DStv and you haven't yet taken out the DVD series, this is one show you don't want to miss, and more importantly - now you don't have to.

Circle your diary for 23 April, where some serious escapism awaits...

Sorry, went and bought the whole series, I couldn't wait for SABC3. I'm following it on M-Net now  - this one show I'm defs not missing - it's unbelievably addictive which makes the wait of a whole week almost unbearable (was spoilt to watch one episode after the other).  I'd defs recommend it - what the brothers went through is just unbelievable and please, please, please tell me why T-Bag won't die - if I could I would've strangled him myself he is just such a slimy, slithering, snake - I can't stand him.

Okay Proud is a pushing it a bit far, I would have like to see Jericho replaced with a new series, maybe Heroes II ? But Prison Break will have to do for those who haven't seen the show yet.
