Julia Louis-Dreyfus was born in New York City and grew up in both New York and Washington DC. She went to Northwestern University In Evanston, Illinois where she met Brad Hall, who she married in 1987.
Between 1982 - 1985 she was a member of the cast of Saturday Night Live where she met Seinfeld co-writer Larry David who cast her as Elaine Benes in Seinfeld, which premiered in 1990.
Between 1990 and 1998 she played Elaine in the show until its end and earned acclaim and recognition for her performance.
She received an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, five Screen Actors Guild Awards and four American Comedy Awards during the show's nine-year run.
She currently stars in The New Adventures of Old Christine, for which she won the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Her other television credits include:
- A recurring role in Arrested Development as the lying prosecutor Maggie
- The lead role in a sitcom created for her husband entitled Watching Ellie (2002), which ran for 16 episodes before it was cancelled.
- A voice role in the television movie Animal Farm (1999).
