1Magic lives on with Showmax sloppy seconds

The chaos continues and the plot sssickens...

1Magic has officially earned the name 1Not-So-Magic.

All evidence pointed to a channel shutdown on 2 February, with inbox messages sent to subscribers, the influx of repeats from other channels and a schedule in freefall with 1802: Love Defies Time hardest hit.

The show went from three episodes a week to burning off in double bills from Mondays to Saturdays and it disappeared from Catch Up for days.

Then, next thing, it was back to its previous schedule of Mondays to Wednesdays and now the channel's become the home of Showmax sloppy seconds.

First with Season 1 of Adulting which suddenly started yesterday (30 January) after turning into a no-show on Mzansi Magic in April last year.

It was scheduled to start then but didn't happen and now it's on 1Not-So-Magic, along with the Showmax Western-themed series Outlaws which starts this Monday 5 February at 20h00, replacing The River which ends on Friday.

And all this with not a word nor explanation as to what's going on from DStv. Subscribers have literally been left with whiplash, while chaos ensues backstage because that must be what's going on.

We've never seen a channel turn into such a trainwreck. Ever. Not even M-Net Edge could compete with this madness.

The fact that the introduction of these shows coincides with the launch of the new Showmax suggests that 1Not-So-Magic might become a Showmax repeats channel.

The only flaw in that theory: what's the point of a new Showmax if Showmax shows are going to be on a dedicated channel anyway?

Or it could be a way of marketing Showmax before the channel does actually shut down.

This could be why there's been chaos - maybe there's a dispute about what to do behind-the-scenes.

What's your take?

like you said it's likely that they haven't stopped their initial plans I don't see MultiChoice keeping 1magic especially if they're treating like second fiddle. As for Me, it could be that M-Net is done with secondary networks and would rather opt for something with more of an identity for which Me wasn't.

so MultiChoice opted to remove two other channels around the same time end of January - NWTV and One Freestate Televisual.
