The main kudos of the Grammys always go to the record hitmakers but not for us. We're always most curious about the TV and film categories and the more obscure nods involving actors and their spoken word albums.

Of course we're always ready to whoop! when South Africans get a nod and this year there are two: Black Coffee, who's been nominated in the Best Electronic category, and South African flautist Wouter Kellerman for Best New Age Album.

Wouter's won before, in 2015 for Best Contemporary Instrumental.

The 2022 ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on Monday 31 January, in the early hours of Tuesday 1 February in South Africa.

Jon Batiste headlines the nominees with a total of 11 and Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. follow with eight. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo have seven.
