Hip Pops

Channel: kykNET NOU! (DStv 146)
TX Time: 21h00
Genre: Music, Special

Cape Town has long been known for its raw, laid-back and socially conscious approach to hip-hop. Recently there has been a crop of young artists who are slowly changing the climate with a slightly more light-hearted approach to lyrics and beats.

Now this genre will be merged with classical music using the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in the production Hip Pops, with Shimmy Isaacs as MC.

Watch out for artists like Jack Parow, Hakkiesdraad Hartman, DJ Ready D, Early B, YOMA and Ernestine Stuurman (soprano).

Derry Girls

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 00h01, all episodes
Genre: Comedy

Comedy set in the 1990s which follows the escapades of a group of teens as they grow up amongst the Troubles in early-1990s Northern Ireland.

It is based on Lisa McGee's own experience of growing up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles and follows Erin Quinn and her friends as they navigate the trials and tribulations of teenage life against a backdrop of bomb alerts, soldiers and British Army checkpoints.

As the series begins: it's the early 90s, the first day of school and a terrible start for 16-year-old Erin as she wakes up to find her cousin Orla reading her diary. And Granda Joe announces there's a bomb on the bridge.

Guys With Kids

Channel: SABC3
TX Time: 19h30
Genre: Comedy

Chronicles the lives of three 30-something dads, and their respective partners, as they raise their children in a modern environment, which is a struggle because they are still children at heart themselves.

Thankfully Gary (Anthony Anderson), Chris (Jesse Bradford) and Nick (Zach Cregger) have each other to help navigate the highs and lows of fatherhood - while still trying desperately to remain dudes.

Balancing work or staying at home, happily married or happily divorced, taking care of the littles while maintaining a social life is a daily challenge.

Loyiso Madinga: Born Free-Ish

Channel: 1Magic
TX Time: 21h30
Genre: Comedy, Special

A standup comedy special arising from the confusion of someone who is too young to be able to say they fought in the struggle, but too old to be a born free.

It's been quite a road so far since Loyiso started performing comedy in 2012. He has performed a week of shows at the Teatro Monte Casino alongside international acts, written and performed on Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola and The Bantu Hour and even been invited to festivals around the world.

This Eastern Cape boy is returning home in true Khumbul'ekhaya style, except he's coming back willingly. In fact, he's excited to see how many sheep you slaughter for him.
