The year's in full swing and our TV channels are firing up 2016 with the premiere of numerous South African shows this February.

A crowd of new shows and seasons start this month so we've compiled our Top 5 choices for you to lookout for. We'll feature the premieres of the others as we always do, but these are the five new series that have made our Most Anticipated list:

Showville
Channel:
SABC2
Premiere date: Saturday, 6 February at 19h30

A reality search hosted by Rob van Vuuren and Bontle Modiselle that pokes around South Africa's small towns to find hidden talent and star performances.

Has a 50/50 chance of going either way: could deliver impressive acts or could plunge into us into madness if the acts suck.

Tune in here for more: all deets on Showville.

Double Up Mzansi Style
Channel:
e.tv
Premiere date: Monday, 8 February at 20h30

Biker hottie Seipei Mashugane takes us on a 13-episode trip across South Africa with comedian Tats Nkonzo tucked in her sidecar. The pair travel through the country's nine provinces to explore hidden gems and cool sights, encouraging us to travel too.

Heist
Channel:
e.tv
Premiere date: Tuesday, 9 February at 21h35

An action thriller inspired by the heist that hit the Justin Bieber concert in 2013, starring Jerry Mofokeng as Talent, a grass cutter who works at a stadium in Alexandra. He finds himself unfairly dismissed from his job and decides to use his insider stadium knowledge to pull off the ultimate concert heist. He uses his ability to identify talent to gather a gang for the job and puts his plan into motion.

The series also stars Wright Ngubeni (pictured above), Phumeza Mdabe, Jody Abrahams, Meshack Mavuso, Kenneth Nkosi and Warren Masemola.

Hustle (not to be confused with The Hustle on Vuzu and Vuzu Amp)
Channel:
eKasi+
Premiere date: Thursday, 11 February at 21h00

A drama set in the music industry, starring Brenda Ngxoli as Kitt, a has-been music diva who's lost her mojo after a long and successful career.

Kitt is a has-been who was an 80s star with a huge fan base. She released hit tracks in the 80s and perfomed at big stadiums but her career has crashed. She began her career in a group called The Sparrows with her sister and best friend and shot to super-stardom when her extraordinary voice and hot ambition resulted in her achieving success as a solo artist.

She rose to the heights of the South African music industry, she plunged and now she wants to make a come-back. The drama captures her rough journey back to the top of the charts and also stars Dineo Ranaka, Zolisa Xaluva, Mothusi Magano, Masello Montana and Andile Nebulane.

JAB
Channel:
SABC1
Premiere date: Friday, 12 February at 20h30

A boxing drama about 19-year-old Bee (played by newcomer Vanessa Ntlapo) who gets thrust into the world of professional boxing when she finds herself needing to fight for money to save her family's home.

I mistook Dineo Ranaka for Sonia Sedibe on that Hustle promo poster.  I also spot Sisanda Hena (or is that him? My eyes are suspect this morning). I hope the show will make its way to Etv one day.
