Ask TVSA: how to buy a series or episodes from the SABC

TVSA receives constant queries from readers and viewers about the purchasing of TV shows so we regularly update this article with what you need to do.

Here's an example of a query we've received, with the latest details on ordering:

Q: Please, please, please, I really need your help. I am looking for all the seasons of Konings. I would really appreciate it if you could assist me in this regard. If there is a way that I could maybe get it on dvd or any other medium it would be awesome.

We've delved into the situation and discovered that it's possible to buy any SABC show - if it's available in the SABC archive (which Konings is) and if the format allows it to be transferred to DVD.

Anyone can purchase a full series, multiple seasons or an individual episode from the SABC's Business Enterprise department.

This is VERY useful indeed, i wonder if one can order a movie the SABC once played,,,especially if the movie is not available anywhere on DVD

I was looking forward to 90s dramas on sabcencore but there is nothing!

Very good info.
I bought YIZO YIZO about two years ago. It was not a particularly easy process and they did not have other series I wanted. I have been looking for INTERSEXIONS for a while but no luck.
SABC does a very poor job of selling its DVDs.

The cost for buying from their archive is astronomical. Nearly R2000 per season of a mini series.
The quality of the copies are not very good. The DVD's they sent me looked like old VHS footage digitized with poor sound quality.
I suspect the archives were not well preserved or were not properly digitally remastered.
You are better off looking for old DVD's somewhere.
