Donkerland, ZANews and isiBaya, winners of Best Achievement in Costume Design.

The first night of the 2015 South African Film and Television Awards took place at Gallagher Estate in Gauteng on Friday night (20 March) and delivered Golden Horns in the Creative Arts categories.

The evening was hosted by comedian Loyiso Gola and focused on the creative and technical aspects of TV shows and films as well as various non-fiction genres including documentaries, reality shows and talkers.

The satirical ZANews: Puppet Nation dominated the comedy categories while isiBaya headlined the soapies with wins including Best Achievement in Scriptwriting.

Afrikaans drama dominated the Drama categories and the short documentary Hippo vs Croc took a hungry bite out of Wildlife winning every category except for one.

As you'll see, the biggest Twilight Zone (most non-sensical) phenomenon of the night was the reality show Charly's Cake Angels winning the Best Variety category. How can anyone possibly explain this?! No-one can because there is no explanation that makes sense.

The second Primetime night of the awards are coming up on Sunday (22 March) and will air live on SABC2 at 19h30. While everyone gets themselves glamorised for the event, here's a close-up on all of the creative winners (in red):
