Rhythm City loses a million viewers

Rhythm City's losing it's beat.

The once very popular soapie has suffered a huge and dramatic viewership decline since the premiere of Skeem Saam in SABC1's new 18h30 soapie slot.

Skeem Saam premiered on Monday, 14 July and Rhythm City's ratings reeled and plummeted - by almost two million viewers.

Rhythm City's average ratings for:

The end of May 2014 (Before the World Cup started and impacted on the ratings):	3,514,000 viewers (It was the top show on e.tv in that week)
The week of the Skeem Saam premiere:	1,636,000 viewers

Rhythm City went on to reclaim some traction once Skeem Saam settled in but it has never properly recovered. It currently averages about 1 million viewers less than it did before Skeem Saam.

Ratings in the week of 11 - 17 August (the latest figures published on TVSA):

Scandal!	3,423,000
Skeem Saam	3,115,000
Rhythm City	2,422,000

The difference between Rhythm City now and then:

Final week of May:	3,514,000
11 - 17 August 2014	2,422,000
Number of viewers less	1,092,000
Percentage less	31%

Things are so bad the soapie's lost their omnibus on e.tv to Scandal!

The Rhythm City omnibus is being dropped from e.tv on Saturdays as from this Saturday (6 September). A Scandal! omnibus takes over instead, at 09h30.

e.tv hasn't said that the change is because of Rhythm City's ratings but we assume it must be. The Rhythm City omnibus moves to eKasi+ on OpenView HD - on Sundays at 09h00.

things were not good before skeem sam even started but they decided to make it worse by making suffo marry Nicky it should have been suffo and puleng

That is the price that you get for employing poor writers. I have never really followed on their story lines, nevermind their bad language. I guess it was expected that their ratings will go down, comparing to the writing skills os Serite.

I stopped watching that "SOON TO BE CANNED RUBBISH" way before Skeem Saam came to the fore.

This is reallly sad to think it was one of the best shows when it started, last time I watched was when Genaro was stil in prison and was trying to get kill the boss. I hope they are working on wasy to improve the show. It has great actors. Why does this not happen to generations thou?
