Last weekend the YMCMB crew took over Jozi and what a blast it was. Yeah, yeah, I'm a luver of things and one of the things I luv is Hip Hop, so my groupie tendencies were at their maximum.
Before I forget (Eish, phela some house fans might be rolling their eyes by now...) , YMCMB stands for Young Money & Cash Money Billionaires, which is the company that's home to the likes of Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga and the likes.
Friday was the All White Drake concert sponsored by Castle Lite at Gallagher Estate and things were all white and nice... uh uh I meant ice.
Let me just say I couldn't understand why the theme would be ALL WHITE for a hip-hop act. I get that it blended well with the ice theme of Castle Lite but it would have worked with an act like Celine Dion, not Drake. That's just my opinion.
Micasa formed part of the opening acts for Drake...
Also adding up to the opening acts was Naves and Sphectacula who did an awesome job as a hype man. lol. Naked Dj was also on the decks and Morafe and Khuli Chana did their thing on stage.
The hosts for the evening were Dineo Ranaka, Tbo Touch and Slikour who did a stellar job in keeping the crowd intact whilst we waited forever for Drake to take the stage.
Then the moment of truth came when Drake took to the stage. Woooo... The hotness that is Drake bathong. *faints*
As we were perving over Dreezy, the sound pulled a Mshoza. This is after people waited for more than 5 hours for Drake to perform. Mind you, there were no issues during the performances by the local acts. Sabotage maybe??
About 15 minutes later, Dreezy came back on stage and at the count of 3 we joined in saying "F*** You" to the sound guys. Mara Drake! Needless to say, he gave an electrifying performance. Pity he didn't perform all of his popular songs. *sad face*
We had backstage passes but Drake's security was so tight, they weren't allowing anyone to get close to him. Oho!
Overall the concert was awesome and even though prior to the event, they mentioned that 1 thousand people would attend, I remember Tbo Touch announcing that there were 4000 people in the venue. With all those people there, somewhat there was a celebrity drought. Shem, I guess many celebs didn't crack an invite. Oh well, a 5FM dj said "If you didn't crack a Dreezy or Weezy invite, there's always Zahara to look forward to."
Amongst the familiar faces I spotted were Uyanda Mbuli, Trevor Gumbi and David Kau who came with an entourage of branded cars for his Kroonstad Christmas party.
Then....After a couple hours sleep we got dressed in appropriate gear to grace the King of Hip Hop (according to me obviously) Lil Wayne at the Dome.
Canoc Productions needs an award for the most organised and prompt concert in the history of Pruluv attending events.
The concert started promptly at 8pm with a Rick Ross performance. My heart almost dropped, when I only made it into the venue 2 minutes before Ricky Rozay ended his performance. All I saw, was the big man huffing and puffing and in a flash, he was gone.
I couldn't even snap a pic. Mxm...
As my sister and I tried to catch our breaths in the VIP area with drinks and finger snacks, guess what... They announced that Weezy was next up on stage. Just like that!
I ditched the VIP area and pushed my way through the golden circle to catch a closer view of Weezy. I miraculously forgot my phobia of being in a crowd. Hehehe... The joy in my heart was beyond words when he made it onto the stage. Yeah, yeah, I'm a HUGE Weezy fan, so bear with me guys. Hahaha...
Lil Wayne is a performer of note. He did a solo performance for almost 2 hours. He performed almost all his popular songs and seemed really chuffed to be in Mzansi. He was even skating all over the show. I take my weave off for this dude.
He's no saint for sure, and he made that clear when he announced that he went to the after party at Latinova the previous night but didn't get any Mzansi *female cat.* So he made a plea to Mzansi
skanks gals to offer him some p*ssy and the girls went wild and started booking tables at the after party. That's Weezy for you.
Too much of something good is good for you, as the surprise act turned out to be... Dreezy (wearing the same clothes as the previous night). The crowd lost their minds. Shem, I felt sorry for those that thought Eminem was going to be the surprise act. They will JBS.
Another person that needs to be strong is cougar Nonhle Thema's former smallboy Young Nucho who got instant fame after fooling Nonhle into believing he's Lil Wayne. Then he was chased out of Hush by the real Weezy and his crew. Ok, Young Nucho please sit down because you should be proud to embrace your own unique, African swag. It's enough that you kinda look like Weezy, now you wanna sound like him too? Why baba?
Please listen to Lil Nucho here and advice on this identity crisis: http://m.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en&client=mv-rim&v=4kkPpeHKt1A
Anywhoo... Seeing Weezy perform LIVE has just transformed me and I've become a happier person. Lol. It's safe to say Weezy murdered that concert and made it the mother of all concerts. He has also made my 2011.
A S/O to Simphiwe Majola for the Drake photos and access. Another Big S/O to Debra for ensuring we got VIP treatment at the Lil Wayne concert.
