A new look crown for a new look Miss South Africa - The Platinum masterpiece created by leading South African jewellers was revealed at Jack Friedman Jellewers store in Sandton City this week. Her name is Palesa.

Miss SA 2014 Crown - Palesa

As may already know that Miss South Africa 2014 will be announced at Sun City on March 30 and the fortunate lady will be crowned with a brand new glittering masterpiece worthy of her prestigious title.

So why a new crown?

Well... The Miss South Africa organisers decided that a new headpiece had to be created for the new look and revamped Miss SA pageant. They say the crown is synonymous with beauty pageants.

The team at Jack Friedman Jewellers wanted something that was both elegant and memorable. They decided to make the crown from platinum, one of the rarest elements in the earth’s crust, and synonymous with South Africa which accounts for 80 percent of world production. The precious metal in the Miss SA 2014 crown comes from Anglo American Platinum.

Working with pageant designer, fashion guru Malcolm Kluk, the Jack Friedman team took inspiration from the natural beauty of indigenous South African flowers and traditional patterns to create the new simple and striking crown.

It is named Palesa after the word for “flower”.

Gold? Please! Ladies love platinum...

Wait a minute...

I've seen some of the ladies on TV minus the make-up and they look their age, but hayi, once they have make-up on, some look way over 25 years. Or am I wrong?

Back to the crown...

People on social networks had mixed emotions about this "new look crown:"

What are your views on this crown? Love it? Hate it? Or you just don't care? Lol

The Miss South Africa pageant, presented by Sun International and sponsored by Cell C, takes place at Sun City Superbowl on Sunday March 30. It will be televised live on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) at 5.30pm on Sunday, March 30.

At first I thought the winner was already known(the heading) I was like What The Fudge is this corruption, I was about to dial PP Adv Thuli. It looks weird mayb when it is on the it will be different. I think that Tanzanite crown used to be beautiful. In the past few years they were using ameteur crowns lol

lol at the title, mara wena Pru though, thought I had missed the finale. Does it really matter what the crown's name is. All we want is for a deserving person to win, not for this to be the current racial tiara switch that it is

And quite on the contrary to popular [media] belief, the pageant is still very much relevant and fast-tracks a deserving woman's career
