Yazi guys, I forgot my pics downloader at home. Therefore, I will only be able to post the pics album tomorrow. Please pardon me, you Feathers Readers!
Last night my sidekick and I attended the Feathers Awards launch party held at the Skyline Gardens in Braamfontein. Sushi King, Kenny Kunene, is leading in most categories with outstanding three nominations.
Kenny Kunene has three nominations including the funny cute couple of the year
As we arrive at the venue, my sidekick and I are not sure if we are at the right place and I see a pint-sized young girl on the street and I open the car window to ask her if we have the right place. She says yes and shows us where the entrance is. My sidekick, who is a TVSA blogger and self-proclaimed Joburg Socialite *hides*, Tazteeq, tells me the pint-sized girl is Dineo Ranaka and I go: "Oh flip, she is so short," I remark as we find parking.
Busy: Dineo tells Soweto TV or whatever TV that she had a busy year
Dressed in a pink strapless dress, Dineo makes her way to the elevators and we follow her. The PR dude, Tumi Rametse, greets us with a big smile and we immediately feel comfortable. Akere one never knows what to expect at gays events.
Over my dead body: Penny Lebyane refused to pose for us
Penny Lebyane arrives at the venue a little late and I introduce myself to her and ask if I can take a picture of her. She smiles coyly and says, "No, I don't want to be photographed" and makes her way to the bar. Later on in the evening, I spot her sitting with a group of her gay friends and when they leave to only-heavens-know-where, I notice that her drink is finished and she keeps on sipping it even though it is clear it's only water by the ice-cubes left in her glass. My sidekick and I use non-verbal language to laugh about it.
It is clear African time takes precedence as the event was scheduled to start at 19:30 but it's now way after 20:15 and we still haven't started. Not that we are complaining though because we are being served sushi’s and the drinks at the bar are just great. Mina ke I don't do booze but I choose to have one shooter just this once and jeepers creepers, I will never drink that thing again. Whatever the name of the brand is! I shall stick to my Fanta and Grapetiser thank you.
The crystal glasses under the Jozi skies boast a beautiful Parktown view. The venue is adorned with Feathers Awards logos and less proves to be more in terms of logo décor.
Ever friendly: Kuli will now unblock me on Twitter
Enter the queen of South African entertainment gossip Kuli Roberts and within seven minutes of her arrival, the announcement of the nominees start. Rocking a mini black number and looking quite lean compared to the last time I saw her in February, Kuli is all sexy showing off her hips.
I can touch those well-trimmed hips of hers anytime and kiss her at any given day. I introduce myself to Kuli and ask to take a pic of her and she is only happy to pose with me. I tell her she blocked me on Twitter for saying she has put on weight a little earlier this year and she promises to unblock me. Much later in the evening before she leaves, she brushes my shoulder and tells me she will unblock me.
Making Kuli happy: Kuli Roberts is happy about his nomination
After the announcement of the nominees, I ask her what her take is on the nominees and she says: "I'm happy that Khanyi Mbau isn't featured on the nominees because it was going to be obvious who was going to win. Don't get me wrong, I like Khanyi but I think it is good she isn't nominated," she says. The nomination list (
Tashi just posted it) is quite short. I ask Kuli what more categories she would have liked to see and she replies: "I like the categories. The shorter the better. Otherwise if you have a long list, you will end up boring people so I like it and I like everyone nominated."
Elegant: Thembisile looked all beautiful last night
I spot Thembisile Ntaka who shot to fame in the Coca-Cola Pop Stars’ Adila and we chat about this and that and yazi shem, she is looking even more sexier than ever before. I try to speak to Jafta Mamabolo, who received a nomination for Socialite of the year as it is believed he is seen at every opening of an envelope or an erection of a stop sign, about his nomination but he only answers my questions coyly looking like he is on the run. However, he did manage to tell me that he is happy about his nomination. When I asked if he thinks the people he is pitted against, Jen Su and Thembisa Mdoda are a tough competition for him, he just smiles and says we will see before he disappears into thin air. Yazi shem bhuti, I wasn't gonna ask you about the Joburg rumours that you are gay. Ebile, akere your fashion sense always gives you away. *hides*
Coyly: Jafta was afraid I would ask him if he is indeed gay
As my sidekick and I walk-about, we see Kuli interviewing Penny and lol, Kuli is busy doing her punch-lines on poor Penny. I spot Dineo Ranaka speaking to Soweto TV or whatever the station is, saying this year has been a hectic one for her. She also asserts that she supports gay people and their rights.
Phil Mphela aka Blaqueboi: My sidekick and I had a great time catching up with Phil. Zoopy calls him SA's equivalent of Perez Hilton, lol
My sidekick and I chat to former TVSA blogger Phil Mphela aka Blaqueboi who is covering the event for Zoopy. We speak in detail about his future plans in the entertainment industry and he speaks with me about it only in good confidence so I shall not betray his trust. All Makisto can say for now is watch the space y’all silly haters. *hides* (Yeah, akere some few minority used to say Blaque and I were fighting for readers, silly!) Konje who again did the “Top 10 reasons why Blaque is gay”? *dead* Well, Blaque looks quite cool. However, a few things give him away. The jeans, the piercings. Otherwise, it is great to catch up with you again man! Oh, before I forget, Phil please go back to gym and do a lot of stomach exercises. *hides*
BlackBerry services being down couldn't stop Dineo from tweeting
I talk to Dineo right after the nominees are announced and since BlackBerry is dead, she is having her Ipod with her busy tweeting and I speak to her and she says because this year has been quite tough on her, she is hoping for a win. She is nominated in the Best Styled Female, which is a category for ladies that constantly keep to their style throughout the year. She is pitted against Bonang Matheba and Noni Gasa. Well, Your Girl B and Noni weren't in attendence.
My sidekick spots Lelo aka Brown Shugga and I know he has been dying to meet her. I tell him to go say hi to her but he is afraid to go tell her how much he adores her. Well, it's your loss ke bhuti. Yazi mina shem I am not sure if I can keep company of cowardly people. If you don't watch out, I may just find myself a new sidekick ke mina.
