Prison Break - Episode 4

This week’s episode finally shows some progress in the escape department. I love all the mystery that surrounds the whole “plan” but I am also dying of curiosity to find out how it’s all going to fall into place.

Lincoln has very little time left and the whole execution fills his thoughts even when he is sleeping.

In the opening scene the lights of his prison cell are switched on and he is dragged away by the guards, kicking and screaming... He is led to the electric chair and immediately I know that it HAS to be a dream. The procedure for an execution is very controlled and there is just no way that he will be killed that way, even if the President himself had been killed.

But what is my undoing is the actual strapping on of all the belts and especially THAT CAP. They use a sponge to wet his head and then when they strap on THAT CAP the sponge is left there. For obvious reasons.

I can’t remember why I know exactly how an execution is carried out – probably a movie or a book- but as they go through the motions I am disturbed that it all looks very familiar to me. I can’t imagine what Lincoln must be feeling, knowing not only the day you will die but HOW as well.

No wonder he has these kinds of nightmares. When he wakes up he is visibly shaken at the thought of death be way of the electric chair.

Michael has managed to pry the toilet away from the wall and is busy trying to loosen some bricks in said wall. He is alone but just then Haywire returns from wherever he has been. Michael quickly covers up his work and asks Haywire if he ever thought of breaking out.

He’s probably trying to see whether it would be safe to trust Haywire with his escape plans but Haywire’s negativity quickly discourages Michael. This is when Haywire sees Michael’s tattoos.

From the moment his eyes locked onto those tattoos, I could literally see the cogs of his mechanical brain turning. I am convinced that I know what Haywire’s problem is, he’s a misunderstood genius. With crossed eyes. How else can he see that maze in Michael’s tattoos?

A doctor comes to dispense some medication to Haywire, which he swallows and later regurgitates by sticking his fingers down his throat. Michael says maybe they give him those pills for a reason but Haywire reckons they are invisible handcuffs. I’m sure he’s right about that too.

In the yard Michael tries to get Sucre’s attention but Sucre still wants nothing to do with Michael. He has 16 months left and if anything happens he can serve his full sentence, which is ten years.

Michael focuses on his tattoo again and we see some sort of liquid being poured out of what looks like a Grecian urn, with the words CUTE POISON on it. Michael flashes back to his apartment and on the wall Cute Poison is circled in red with some chemical symbols on it.

Abruzzi disrupts Michael’s thoughts and wants to know what’s wrong. Michael nods toward Haywire and Abruzzi tells him to take care of his problem or Abruzzi will take care of him.

Warden Pope’s Taj Mahal model seems to be coming on nicely. Pope says he wishes he could repay Michael and Michael mentions that he’s not happy with his cell mate. Unfortunately Pope has no jurisdiction over the sleeping arrangements; Bellick is in charge of all the cell transfers.  Just then Pope’s wife arrives in the outer office and he scurries off to see her.

He doesn’t want her to see the model, so he’s acting a bit dodgy, which she immediately notices. Then she says she hopes it’s not Toledo all over again.

Now I don’t know what that means, but clearly he was up to something in Toledo because he looks hurt that she could even think such a thing and she demands to go inside to see if what he’s saying is true.

Just then though, Michael walks out and says something prison related and even implies that there is still someone else in the room.  Saving Pope’s hide, so now Pope owes him. So Pope speaks to Bellick, asking him about Haywire and Michael.

And then we find out what Haywire is in for. He murdered his parents! Bellick reckons that he’s ready for General Population and that Pope should trust him. Pope says that he wants Bellick to take over from him when he retires and hints that if Bellick doesn’t do as he says, then that replacement might not take place.

Lincoln gets a visit from Veronica, who is now his attorney.
You know, there’s just something about her that I don’t like. I think it’s because she speaks so slowly. She has no sense or urgency at all. I mean, the man is going to be executed in a few weeks, can you please put a dash of rush into your investigation?

Anyway, she is now his attorney but says she needs help. Lincoln refers her to Project Justice. They are a law firm that deals only with people on death row. Lincoln had already contacted Ben Forsik from PJ so he wants Veronica to contact them to see if there was any progress.

When Veronica gets there, however, Ben Forsik says he cannot help her.  He says that he doesn’t have enough manpower to help her and even when she sys that she’ll do all the footwork he says, sorry, no can do.

Sucre is surprised to see Hector there when it was supposed to be Maricruz who was to be visiting him. Hector tells him that Maricruz is with him now and that he can provide for her. This drives Sucre mad with rage and Hector says that his point has been proven. Sucre makes some sort of hand gesture which I think means “when I get out of here you sonamabitch I’m going to cut you into a million little pieces and feed you to the fishes” I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Michael is in the Toxic Control center and bribes one of the inmates with a box of cigarettes so that he can get access to some of the chemicals. Here Michael finds some masonry cleaner and the flashbacks begin again and we see EXACTLY where the name Cute Poison comes from. ( I KNOW I WAS DEF WONDERING ABOUT THAT)

CP Clues

Unfortunately while he is there, he runs into Bellick who is slightly pissed off because he went to Pope regarding his cell mate. He steps on Michael’s toe, which has him writhing in agony.

Back in his cell Michael chats to haywire saying that he thinks haywire should leave as the living situation wasn’t working out.

While he is talking he is emptying out a toothpaste tube - which just happens to belong to Haywire.

Haywire shares a secret with Michael and expects Michael to share one with him in return. He is curious about those tattoos but Michael maintains that there is nothing in them.

Haywire

Sucre, in the meantime, is desperate to speak to Maricruz.  He wants to know if what Hector is saying is true. He calls her up and she immediately attacks him by saying that she knows that Rita has been visiting him because Hector told her. Typical woman, the man is locked up in prison for heavens sake. He could be cheating on you with Bubba but not with Rita. It’s just not possible.

But Hector is a sneaky bastard. He is obviously working on Maricruz’s weakness and on Sucre’s as well. Quite possibly he is lying to BOTH of them just to get what he wants, which is obviously Maricruz.

Maricruz ends the phone call on a bad note and Sucre is tormented by thoughts of her leaving him for Hector.

While Veronica had been in with Forsik at Project Justice, Hale and Kellerman have been doing some sneaking around of their own. I can't tell one from the other but one of them was sitting in the car, while the other was snooping around Veronica’s house. Here he finds a photo of Veronica and the 2 brothers. The connection is not yet made, but he knows that he has found something useful,

That night as Michael lay sleeping, crazy Haywire starts cutting Michael’s shirt so that he can see his tattoos. Michael jumps to his feet and orders Haywire to stay away from him but Haywire is in a world of his own. He keeps saying “it’s a maze> why would he have a maze on his skin?”

The next day Michael goes to Abruzzi and asks him for some drain line root. Abruzzi wants to know if he has weeds growing in his cell and Michael answers, “Only one”

Abruzzi thinks that the drain line is for Haywire and he suggests that Michael use other methods to get rid of him.

When he gives Michael the root he also hands him knife, but Michael refuses.

Back in his cell Michael fills in the tooth paste tubes with the masonry cleaner and root control respectively.

Veronica goes to the police station where she speaks to an Officer who was in Lincoln’s apartment on the night of the murder. He says he saw Lincoln wash some bloody pants in his bathtub and even though she tries to interrogate him as to what he ACTUALLY saw, he maintains that what he says is true.

As she leaves she is approached by Nick. Nick works for PJ and wants to help her because he thinks there is an injustice going on. He reckons that normally a death row case takes 10 years while Lincoln’s took only 3, so clearly there is someone who wants him out of the way.

He joins her and they go to Lincoln, where they question him about the events of the night.

Lincoln says that he met with some guy called Bo. Bo was going to pay off his debt to Crab. Therefore this Bo must be the same guy with the white hat that Leticia was talking about.

Apparently Bo had supplied the guns and Lincoln had tested a few before making a choice of one.

The money, however, was not the only reason why
Lincoln was ready to kill. They had also threatened to kill LJ if he did not go through with it.

Sucre wants back in. A man in love is a desperate man and he will do anything to join them in their plans to escape. Michael tells him it’s too late but Sucre begs him and so Michael says he’ll take care of it.

Michael goes back to his cell and sees Haywire’s sketches of his tattoos. Haywire says that it’s a pathway and asks Michael where it leads to.

Drawings

Michael goes to the cell bars and starts banging on the bars while a stunned Haywire looks on. He bashes his head against the bars until he is bleeding and the screams for an officer. They immediately assume that Haywire has been beating him up and they have Haywire forcibly removed.
Hale & Kellerman have found out that Michael & Lincoln are brothers. They phone up some woman and tell her the bad news.

All I know about this woman is that she is blonde, not too young, lives out in the middle of nowhere and she is always cutting up something. Last week she appeared briefly when H & K called her but she didn’t say anything interesting. This week she has put 2 and 2 together and now she wants Michael out of the picture.

Michael goes to the infirmary for his insulin shot but before he gets it, he pours the two tubes of toothpaste down the drain. We see it fizzing away, eating away at the metal.

The good doctor injects Michael and comments on his head injuries. He flirts with her but she is clearly concerned that his charming ways will get him further into trouble.

Sucre gets brought back to his old cell and the two of them awkwardly try and shake hands.

They start their work in earnest and when Michael is ready to push out some bricks, he asks Sucre to make some noise. Sucre starts singing in Spanish, which gets all the other cell mates worked up. An alarm goes off and while all the commotion is going on, Michael kicks the bricks out and a hole in the wall is revealed.

Michael sticks his head through the wall and sees a huge passage.

 escape

Meanwhile one of the secret service guys is eating dinner with his family. The other knocks on his door with good news. There has been an authorization for Michael to be transferred issued. Michael is going to be shipped out. The next day.

And so ends another exciting episode of PB.

I have so many questions that need answering but alas and alack, I have to wait till next week.

Don’t you just love Haywire though? I hope this is not the last we see of him.
