Prison Break - Episode 8

Well I’ll be!

Finally we find out who THAT WOMAN is and I am speechless (don’t you wish). It serves me right for stereotyping though. Not once, while I searched for clues, dissecting the contents of her fridge even, did it even cross my mind. I thought she was somebody’s wife.

OK. She probably is somebody’s wife but because they focused so much on her in the kitchen, I had assumed she was a rich housewife who was looking after her important husband’s best interest. You all know the kind; those pesky, meddling, bored housewives that plot and plan behind their husbands back and then end up sleeping with the plumber. ( sorry – that’s another series I’m thinking of) – ok, sleeping with the gardener then (shit that other series again) well ANYWAY – bored housewives that end up sleeping with the hired help because it gives them some feeling of power.

But as it turns out, I could not have been more wrong.

And her being who she is brings out a whole new line of questions…..

BUT I have a lot to get through though, this episode is packed full of action!

This week’s episode opens with a shot of the tattoo on Michael’s back and the sound of his voice, as he takes us on a tour through the pipes, showing us where Westmoreland’s cat is. He says there are only 17 days left till Lincoln execution and that he is there to make sure it doesn’t happen.

His visual tour ends up in the yard with him, John Abruzzi & Fernando Sucre discussing what their next plan of action is. Abruzzi wants to know how the rest of them are going to get into the hole in the wall so that they too can escape. After all, he is in a separate cell, as is Lincoln.

Michael then starts likening the layout of Fox River Penn to the map of the United States. Sucre & his Cell is New York City. The infirmary, which is their point of exit, is California. He says there are pipes that connect the 2 are route 66. According to Michael, there is a storage building that is situated right on top of the steam pipes where they all need to meet. He say they should “meet me in St Louis” (which incidentally is a movie starring Judy Garland). St. Louis being the storeroom off course.

Being the over-analytical type, I off course had to see it in pictures so that I could put it all together. So off I went and checked out the map of the USA to see if I could find Route 66. And guess what? New York City is not on Route 66.

Route 66

St Louis is though – so maybe he meant that they would travel route 66 from the store room to the infirmary.

ANYWAY – They have a problem. They need to get into the storeroom, which is off limits, and Michael tells Abruzzi that he needs to make a plan to get them in there because if they don’t get in there, they can’t get out.

As they are discussing what needs to be done, T-Bag walks up to them and wants to know what’s going on. He heard bits and pieces of their conversation and says that if they don’t let him in on their plans then he will spill the beans.

As they go back to their cells, Abruzzi & Sucre tell Michael that under no circumstances do they want T-Bag with them. Michael tells them not to worry because T-Bag will soon be out of the picture because of his involvement of Officer Bob’s murder.

Office Bob’s wife is in with warden Pope, discussing the policies that she has due to her. She says she cannot think of money at a time like this.

She wants to know who murdered Officer Bob and although Pope has no leads as yet, he vows to catch the murderer.

When Bob’s wife leaves, Pope instructs Bellick to find the killer at all costs.

Veronica and Nick have returned from Washington DC. They pull up at her apartment and as they get out, Veronica’s handyman, Lucas, sees them and recognizes Nick as the guy Veronica wanted to get away from a while back. Lucas wants to know if he can get rid of Nick for her and when she says that all is OK, Lucas unpacks boxes of work that they have brought with them, from the boot of the car, loads them into a mini trolley and pulls it up to Veronica’s apartment.

Inside the building Lucas opens the door to Veronica’s apartment. As the camera focuses on the keyhole I immediately know what is going to happen. As Lucas turns the handle and pushes the door open, a bomb goes off, blowing them all backward.

explosion

Michael is standing at the fence in the yard staring at the store room when Abruzzi comes up with a suggestion. A few years ago the Chapel had burnt down and because there was a toxic scare, none of the contractors would touch it so they made the inmates do it. They spent 5-6 hours a day working on it without disturbance from anyone.

Just then T-Bag and his bitch, Cherry, walks up to the. Cherry is holding his pocket again and that whole thing just gives me the chills. I absolutely loathe T-Bag and I am completely with Abruzzi & Sucre when they say they do not want him in on the plan.

T-Bag is insistent that he is in though and says he wants his P.I. Card. Abruzzi says he is working on it but T-Bag is not as stupid as it seems. He knows that they are thinking that he will be caught for the murder of Officer Bob. He warns them that if he goes down, they go down. Bastard.

In the visiting room at Fox River Penn, L.J. is talking to Michael. He reminds Michael about the time when he was little and a glass coffee table was broken. When Lincoln found out about it LJ denied he had done it and Lincoln had told him that he didn’t care about the table, he just didn’t want LJ Lying to him.

So about 10 years later, LJ is now admitting that he broke the table. He tells Lincoln that if he ever needs to get anything off his chest, he can confide in him.

Lincoln knows that he is referring to the murder of the Vice-President’s brother and assures LJ that he did not do it. He tells LJ that Veronica is working on some evidence and that there was also a reporter who was coming to see him that very day who also believed in his innocence.

Then he echoed the words that Michael had told him earlier “You gotta have faith”.
Outside Veronica’s apartment Kellerman & Hale are sitting in their car, watching the commotion after the explosion.

And FINALLY I know one from the other. The cell phone on the dashboard rings and the TALL ONE answers and says:”Kellerman” It’s only taken me eight episodes.

THAT WOMAN is on the phone and she wants to know what’s happening. Kellerman assures her that everything has been taken care of. She now wants them to move on to the “second thing”. Kellerman assures her that Lincoln will get the message once he hears about this.

She insists that that they continue anyway.

Michael & Sucre are in their cell watching Bellick and the other CO’s search all the cells for evidence of Officer Bob’s murder. They know that if Bellick searches their cell, the hole in the wall is sure to be found. The only way to stop the CO’s from coming in is to give them T-Bag, but if they do that T-Bag will spill the beans.

Sucre hits the nail on the head when he says: “We’re screwed either way.”

Michael, Abruzzi, Sucre & Lincoln are on PI duty and enter the restricted storeroom. Michael opens a door that is CLERALY marked “No inmates Beyond this Point”

And instead of finding a storage room, there are CO’s in the room. The one points a shotgun at them and demands to know what they are doing there. Michael explains it was an accident and they hightail it out of there.

Back in their gardening shed the boys are freaking out. The storeroom is no longer and in its place is the CO’s break room.
Abruzzi wants to know if there is a backup plan and Michael says that there isn’t.

As they stand watching the break room, they see Westmoreland coming out of the building with some dishes. Apparently he is a “trustee” and is therefore allowed access.

And to become a trustee one has to have a spotless record for at least 30 years – which none of the others qualify for.

So the only way they can get in that room is to get Westmoreland on board as well.

Michael later finds Westmoreland in the yard and goes over to talk to him. He asks if Westmoreland has found his cat to which he replies that she is still Missing In Action.

Michael cuts to the chase and invites him to join them in the escape. Westmoreland asks if it’s because Michael still thinks he is DB Cooper.

Michael says he doesn’t think so, he knows he is.

Michael then recaps the sequence of events around the time of DB Cooper’s hijacking and Westmoreland’s arrest.

DB Cooper

- Westmoreland’s wife receives a telephone call from a Motel in Portland.
- This Motel is not far from the airport from which the plane that DB Cooper hijacked on that day.
- An hour and a half after hijacking the plane DB Cooper parachuted out of there with one and a half million dollars.
- 7 hours after the hijacking Charles Westmoreland was treated in a hospital with a knee injury in Brigham City, Utah
- And the only way he could make it from Portland to Brigham City in that space of time is to fly there.
- DB Cooper would need a car once he landed.
- According to DMV in 1971 Charles Westmoreland had a ’65 Chevy Nova registered on his name.
- A Chevy Nova with its registration number scraped off (along with a blown gasket) was found abandoned along the Arizona border.
- Westmoreland had accidentally hit a woman with a stolen car not far from the Arizona border 2 days after the hijacking. (for which he was arrested)

Westmoreland admits to having a busted knee (although he doesn’t say how it got that way). And he adds that while most of Michael’s story is well researched he forgot one important thing. How could he have hijacked the plane on the 24th November when he was in Folsom finishing a 30 day drunk and disorderly? On the day of the hijacking he was still incarcerated.

Michael is stunned at Westmoreland’s revelation.

My over analytical mind is still confused though. If Westmoreland was in prison in Folsom of the day of the hijacking, why do records show that he was having his knee fixed in a hospital in Brigham City, Utah?

Back inside their cell, Sucre lets Michael know about a way they can start a fire in the break room. They can use the rubber cement that Michael is using on Pope’s Taj Mahal and coat the bottom of the coffee pot. Once it is put on the burner it will catch fire.

The only problem they have is getting the coffee pot inside there. Without Westmoreland the plan is useless.

Sucre says that there must be something that Westmoreland wants and Michael immediately has an idea. He uses some tuna to lure the cat…

Michael then goes to Westmoreland with the cat and although he is very grateful, he cannot help Michael with their plan. He says he has gone all these years without a blemish on his record and he doesn’t want to mess that up.

Cat

Michael goes up to the infirmary to get his shot from Sara. He is surprised that she is there so soon after the riots but she just says that she couldn’t find a replacement.

Finally she asks him how he got to the crawlspace above her office. She knows that hey were never assigned to do the toxic cleanup so how did he manage to find it? Michael clams up and walks away, leaving Sara very confused.

Lincoln is back in the visitor’s room with the reporter who wants to interview him. She asks him a couple of normal questions but then she starts getting really aggressive. As she leaves she asks him about LJ, his son, and says “One Burrows is going to die. It’s up to you which one”

At LJ’s house, the doorbell rings and when LJ opens the door hale is standing there. (Hale is the short, portly one) He tells LJ he is from Juvenile court and that he is there check the house out to see if they are complying with his parole conditions.

LJ is a bit suspicious and asks to see some identification.

At the same time. LJ’s mom walks in through the back door and calls out to him.

Hale pulls out his gun and tells LJ to keep quiet but it is too late, Lisa walks up the stairs with a phone in her hand and sees them.

Hale tells her to drop the phone and when she doesn’t he swings the gun around and point it at her.

Just then LJ throws something at Hale, misses and hits a picture frame hanging behind him.

In the meantime Lisa and LJ duck and run out of the room in different directions.

Lisa runs into the kitchen and is busy dialing 911 when we see hale coming up from behind her.

LJ runs into the basement and kicks out the window so that he can climb out and just as he wants to run, he hears a voice behind him. It is Kellerman.

LJ
LJ opens his phone and Kellerman says that in the time it takes for LJ to dial 911, he would be dead.

LJ’s step-dad approaches Kellerman from behind and knocks him with a baseball bat. He tells LJ to run and just then Kellerman rolls over and shoots LJ’s Step-dad in the chest.

By the time Kellerman gets to his feet LJ is gone.

LJ runs around to the other side of the house and finds his mother face down in a pool of blood, dead.

Lisa

He stifles a scream and realizes that he has to keep on running and so he does.

When LJ had answered the door, he had no shoes on and is now fleeing from his attackers barefoot. His cell phone rings and it’s Kellerman telling him to come back. LJ says he’s going to the police but Kellerman says it’s not such a good idea.

He tells LJ that his prints are on the gun and that the police will find his drugs.

We see H & K planting evidence. They transfer LJ’s prints to the gun and use his shoes to make footprints in the blood.

I tell you man, these Secret Service guys are scary.

Back in the cells Bellick is questioning Westmoreland about Officer Bob’s murder. He knows that Westmorland knows something but he isn’t forthcoming. Westmoreland says that he will be killed if he snitches and Bellick says that if he leaves the cell without any information, their friendship is over.

As he leaves without any information, he leans over and scratches the cat’s head with an evil smile on his ace.

In the cells above, T-Bag and his cronies are watching this. They know that Westmoreland knows and they wonder if he can keep his mouth shut.

Westmoreland comes back from the showers and there are a lot of people gathered around his cell. As he looks in, he sees his cat, dead on his bed.
He looks around and sees Bellick on the floor above and him and Bellick eye each other.

Meanwhile, T-Bag goes to one of the inmates and asks him to take the wrap for Officer Bob’s murder. He says if he gets found he will be in the Solitary confinement for life.

T-Bag

The inmate refuses, especially because it was a CO that was murdered. T-bag is not happy.

In the yard, Pope breaks the news to Lincoln about Lisa and her husband. Lincoln wants to call LJ but Pope wont allow it. LJ is considered a fugitive now and to contact him would be aiding and abetting.

Westmoreland is in the guards break room and he puts a coffee pot onto the burner. He goes to Bellick’s locker and removes a cigarette from it and sits down to smoke it.

Lincoln is furious as he is desperate to talk to his son. He sees a delivery truck pull into Fox River and I can see the wheels of an escape plan turning in his head.

He sees Michael in the yard and tells him he needs to get to LJ. Michael says that they will be out soon, but he doesn’t know when.

LJ is desperate and wants to make a run for the gate. Michael stops him and tells him they will kill him before he even gets to the gate. Lincoln doesn’t care and just then a CO comes over to break up their fight. Just then an alarm goes off and we see smoke coming from the break room.

In the break room, a fireman holds up a cigarette and says he found the cause of the fire.

Pope looks at Bellick as it is his brand. But just then in walks T-Bag’s bitch and says that he knows who killed Officer Bob.

Off they march to the cells and search the cell of the guy that T-Bag had asked to take the fall. They find a picture of Officer Bob’s daughter under his mattress and they drag him away.

Veronica and Nick had escaped the explosion and had gone on the run without informing the police of what had happened.

Nick reckons if they go to the police, the Secret Service guys would know they were alive and it would be like painting a bull’s eye onto them.

Instead he takes Veronica to his dad’s old cabin in the woods. He wants a place where they can hide out safely.

Michael, Abruzzi, Sucre and Lincoln are once again on PI duty, walking toward the burnt down break room. T-Bag approaches them and again threatens to spill the beans.

With someone else now being blamed for the murder of Officer Bob, there is no way they can get rid of T-Bag so they are forced to let him join.

They enter the break room and when they are alone Michael points to a small drain in the middle of the room. It goes down four feet to meet the mainline below and all the have to do is make the hole wide enough so that they can fit through it.

Hole in the floor

They each have sledge hammers and Michael places a carpet over the hole to muffle the sounds of their knocking.

LJ is sitting against a wall, looking at his phone. Earlier, when he had taken out his phone it was not to call 911 but to take a photo of Kellerman.

In an office somewhere, we see Hale & Kellerman talking to THAT WOMAN.

At first we only hear her voice and see her hands as she hands Kellerman a newspaper.  The explosion at Veronica’s apartment block has made the headlines. According to the story no-one in the block made it out alive.

She asks LJ and Kellerman says that they have him in custody. (Why would he lie to her? Probably scared of her reaction)

The camera then moves around and we FINALLY get to see her face.

THAT WOMAN

She says that they can now move onto the next chapter of their lives. “You’re not only doing this for me. Or my brother”

As she says this the door opens and someone says to her “They’re ready for you Madam Vice President”

She tells Kellerman and Hale that they’re doing this for their country.

And as I try and pick my jaw up from the floor, we see madam vice president step up to a podium for a press conference and the PI boys swinging away at the concrete floor.

Serves me right for assuming that the Vice President was a man.

BUT then how is she connected to her own brother’s murder????

ANOTHER CURVEBALL THROWN MY WAY!!!!
