Judging Judy
ONLY IN America can you haul your errant partner in front of a court, have him or her verbally abused by an elderly woman with a razor-sharp tongue, and have the (dis)pleasure of having this humiliation broadcast around the world.
Yes, this is the shady phenomenon that is Judge Judy, weekdays on e.tv at 1pm.
Those of us who work every day may have missed out on the unique joys of watching the lovely Judge Judy in action but here’s a tip: the next off day or sick day, you just can’t miss her.
Today’s gem follows the foibles of a friends who argue over a Brady Bunch game and a camcorder.
I kid you not.
One has to marvel at the sheer gumption of these beauties who, firstly, actually admit to owning a "Brady Bunch" game, and secondly, for then setting themselves up for some wise-cracking abuse from behind the gavel.
Funnily enough, I caught Judge Judy’s appearance on 3rd Degree, e.tv’s investigative journalism programme, a while back, and in real life she is impressive. She is articulate, opinionated, but in a good way, and very serious about her job of judging people.
Oops, I meant judging cases.
In the TV court room, I think she tends to ham it up and lets rip at insipid Americans if they so deserve.
It’s all very entertaining ... as long as you take proceedings with a truckload of salt.
