Guilt-free TV
Apologies to fair weather lovers, but for this public holiday I’m hoping for a cold, rainy, stay-in-your-pyjamas-and-snuggle-under-the-duvet day. I always feel guilty lurking inside when the sun is shining, and for this “free” day I ask for no more than some comfort food, lots of chocolate milk, and full control over the remote.
Today’s the day to channel hop and pick a show that takes your fancy, a day to catch up on what Ricki Lake (e.tv, 1.30pm) is up to and what’s got Judge Judy hot under the collar (e.tv, 1pm).
There are also a few movies and specials that may be worth a whirl. For an old-school classic, try Dark Journey, made in 1937 and starring Vivien Leigh (e.tv, 10.30am) or else hang in there for an hour, get out the tissues, and get ready for the epic three-hour-long Titanic (M-Net, 11am). I, along with millions of others, loved this movie when it was first released in 1997. Nearly a decade later, it may be time to enjoy the Jack and Rose not-so-happy ending once again.
For sports fans, a marathon five hours have been devoted to Commonwealth Games coverage on SABC2 (8am to 1pm) which brings us neatly to switch over to SABC3 at 1pm to catch the rhythmic tappers march and leap in tune in Riverdance: 10 Year Anniversary.
There’s a great variety of programmes to catch on daytime TV today, all the better to watch knowing that I could have been at work.
