Lots o’ luck
THE FACT that the spare change that jangles at the bottom of your purse could possibly buy you a ticket that changes your life irrevocably is a mind-blowing concept.
Lotto players out there will be glued to the screen tonight for both the Live Lotto Draw (e.tv, 9.30pm) and the Lotto Live ’n Lucky Show (e.tv, 9.35pm) straight afterwards.
And who knows? Perhaps you’ll be a winner. If you are, good luck spending the windfall, wisely or not. If your ticket turns out to be a losing one, there’s always next week.
If you don’t buy a ticket, you’re guaranteed not to win.
Whether you are a Lotto player or not, there can be very few people on this planet who have never wondered what they would do should they win the (multi-) million rand jackpot.
Would you blow it all in one go? Would you dump a whole whack of cash on your bedroom floor and just lie in a sea of R100 notes, revelling in the money-money-money you never thought would be all yours?
Would you invest everything and live off the interest? Would you give a percentage away to a charity?
Would you even tell anybody? You hear of nobodies who win the jackpot and suddenly become the favourite Uncle Moneypants in town with everyone and their dog coming up to their door, begging for a loan or a pressie for some long-forgotten favour.
Apparently the Lotto people ensure the big winners go for counselling and financial guidance when they pitch up at the offices to claim their money.
It’s a good measure against the insanity that could prevail in the ultimate rags-to-riches scenario.
