Huge viewership gains for Rockville in Season 2

While the IEC's been counting Election votes, we've been counting eyeballs on Mzansi Magic's Rockville.

We can now reveal the results: the show has made very notable and dramatic gains between Seasons 1 and 2.

Viewership for each premiere episode (i.e. the first run of each episode) increased by a whopping 64% between Seasons 1 and 2.

Produced by Connie and Shona Ferguson, Rockville centres round two families embroiled in an ongoing feud. Season 1 aired on Mzansi Magic on Wednesday nights at 19h00 last year and attracted an average viewership of 219, 187 viewers per episode.

When Season 2 aired this year, on Sundays at 20h00, viewership increased to an average of 359 635 viewers per episode. A gain of 64%.

Interestingly, more people saw Season 1 than Season 2 overall because Season 1 had two repeats during the week whereas Season 2 only had one.

Overall viewership for Season 1 (with repeats): 6, 136, 897
Overall viewership for Season 2: 4, 560, 690

This didn't deter Season 2 - the average viewership per episode (with repeats) was still higher. An average of 227, 035 viewers watched each episode of Season 2 (including repeats) while 204, 563 viewers watched each episode of Season. 1.

Clearly the move from Wednesdays to Sunday nights has been a very positive move for the show.  The series attracted an increasing crowd through the season and kept them throughout. As you'll see from the overview below, the Season 2 finale broke the show's highest viewership record.

Which means there will obviously be a Season 3.

Neither Mzansi Magic nor Ferguson Films have confirmed this but with figures like these, we have no doubt there will be. Here's an overview of both seasons:

Important to note as you browse the ratings ...
  • The figures are provided by SAARF and reflect South African audiences i.e. they don't include DStv viewers from other countries.
  • They reflect the National Universe and are calculated in the same way as the weekly Primetime TV Viewing Figures.
  • They represent the standard currency of adults (15+).
  • They include the repeats for both seasons.

I would love to see it come back especially since Cassius is dead. I would love to see what's gonna happen to Lindi and the boyfriend (Pysfo) and the relationship with JB and his daughter since she saw him kill the grandfather.

but when has good ratings meant a show will be picked up for another season in SA? In this country, shows just come and disappear as the channel pleases (Jacob's Cross). We only pray there will be another season soon and not in 2 years

I think the writers of dramas/soaps are limited!!!! Why? Most storylines are centre on two families - Isindingo (Sibekos and Haines), Generations (Dlomos and Memelas),Muvhango (Mokoenas/Mukhwebos),you can add Inkaba, Zabalaza,Isibiya................ they are all so the same and predictable
