The 19-year-old apprentice farrier from Noordhoek in Cape Town Benjamin Tainton had to bid his Idols dreams farewell last night after Idols host ProVerb announced that he was the one who had garnered the fewest votes from fans in this week’s Top 9 vote.
The Idols SA Season 9 Top 9 performed songs from their own musical idols this past weekend at the Moreleta Park Church Auditorium in Tshwane, and Benjamin gave an interpretation of Coldplay’s “The Scientist”, which unfortunately did not give him the much needed votes to secure a place in the Top 8.
The Top 9 contestants were mentored for their performances last week by Liquideep’s Ziyon, and tonight Liquideep was at the Moreleta Auditorium to show them how it’s done, performing their latest hit, “Rise Again”.
Judging by the Strepsils “Scream O’ Meter” in the auditorium Friday evening, the live Moreleta audience responded the most enthusiastically to Musa Sukwene and Bunny Majaja’s performances, with Crystalene Nair bringing up the rear in third place.
Christina Williams and Zoë Zana found themselves at the bottom of the Scream O’ Meter as well in the Bottom 3 this week along with Benjamin, having won the fewest votes from the fans. Will they be able to work their way back into the audience’s good books with their performances in the Top 8 Spectacular this Friday (11 October)?
The theme is “Movie Magic Anthems” and the contestants will be supported by a full orchestra and mentored by a giant in the film industry, South African-born film composer Trevor Jones.
