Tumi Eliminated 02-10-2013

Top 10 Results
Tumi is out!

Tumi Lesejane from Midrand is the first Top 10 contestant to be sent home in Season 9 of Idols SA. The 21-year-old musical theatre student received the disappointing news at last night's Idols Results Show, which was broadcast live from the Moreleta Park Church Auditorium in Tshwane.

Tumi was an early favourite with the judges during Hell Week at Sun City when Randall Abrahams declared that she was a pop star, and when the girls were singing for a place in the Top 10 everyone raved about her sterling performance.

Unfortunately, her rendition of the old Berlin hit from the movie “Top Gun”, “Take My Breath Away” at Sunday night's Top 10 Idols Spectacular show elicited a lukewarm response from the judges - and not enough votes to keep her in the competition.

Yet Gareth was still surprised at tonight’s results. “There were people on Sunday who performed worse,” he noted. But the judges still decided not to use their one Save of the season to rescue Tumi.

ProVerb kicked off the first Results Show of the season by separating the Top 10 girls and guys into two groups. Then he revealed that the contestant with the fewest votes was a lady, which meant that the guys were all safe.

Thereafter, the tension was built even more by sending Christina Williams and Zoe Zana and then Tumi to the Hot Seats. They had scored the fewest votes from the fans this week.

That means Christina and Zoë will have to work much harder when Ziyon from Liquideep mentors the Top 9 to prepare for this week’s musical theme, “My Idol”.

I don't see Crystalene going anywhere anytime soon, the Indian vote is going to her. A boy needs to go next week, Benjamin please. Tumi did kinda suck, nice voice but she lacks that thing Zoe has. JMO.

What?! And that guy who sang "Everything I do" by Bryan Adams was not in the bottom 2?!

It was time for her to leave, I thought Chrystalene would leave first....she was clearly the worst performer on Sunday....but its votes that count.

to me Tumi was an obvious goner using Sunday performance. the person who is not supposed to have been in the top 10 is Benju

Reality shows are rigged. Don't waste your money on voting. Don't invest in them emotionally. Just watch and enjoy the singing. The producers already know who the winner is. *Drops Mic

Tumi should have been saved by the judges.

After that sunday performance, I undastand why Tumi was the first to go. She is a better singer than Benjamin and Zoe but her performance on sun was the worst!

Tumi should have been saved by the judges @wonderlad....i think that cld hav bn a bad move. Its still early days and there are more contestants who are far much better than Tumi. I think the judges made the right decision to hold on to that.

I believe there's a bit of truth to what Goss said. The producers have the power to steer the show in a certain direction in order to achieve their desired outcome (editing of footage). Tshidi Tenyane was sabotaged in order to ensure that their desired candidate was crowned season 8 idol. She posed the biggest threat to the chosen one and had to be 'strategically' removed. #myconspiracytheory

@Sciro, i think Tshidi sabotaged herself, remember when she visited her area and before she went out of the car she said to the kids that were cheering her 'dont jump at me i will fall, get away from the car i am coming out now ( something like that cant remember exact words)' , with that she made a lot of people angry and i remember saying to my sister she is so out, and she was out!

@ Goldie, my point exactly, that clip was edited in a manner that portrayed Tshidi as some big headed diva to the masses. The result being - she would not receive the huge support that she enjoyed. If you at home could tell that Tshidi would not make it as a result of the 'please don't jump on me' incident, what more about the people who put that clip together? They knew it would have a prejudicial effect on her, but still went ahead and aired it, so clearly they had an underlying motive(khaya). Again ask yourself why Tshidi's public appearance was not well coordinated like the others'. Khaya, Melissa had mall appearances where proper security was provided ( they weren't put in a position where they'd have to fend themselves off from excited fans).

@ Tazneeq I share your sentiments

Also, I'm privvy to the information (from a very reliable production source ) that Sdumo Class Act winner had fewer votes than the runner up but he ended up winning because he had already been chosen. I'm not saying that audience votes never count, but there is a very high level of interference from producers. For example, deciding on whether to use the save or not is a huge decision. Not one that the judges can just decide on in a matter of seconds. They already know who the save is for if it will be used at all.
