The telenovela channel Telemundo launches on DStv this Monday (12 August) - on Channel 118.

Here are 10 must-knows about it:

1) It's official launch is on Monday - on all of the DStv bouquets. It'll be activated from today at 16h00 though (Thursday, 8 August) - it's airing introductions to the channel and shows as a build-up. It'll start each show from Episode 1 on Monday.

2) It's going to feature these four telenovelas daily:

Telemundo 10 Pic 1

3) They'll be broadcast in English - they're dubbed from Spanish. They'll also be airing in Portuguese in Mozambique and Angola.

4) New episodes of each will air weekdays and repeat in a loop.

5) The times of premiere and primetime episodes are:

Show Premiere
episode
(first broadcast)
Primetime
repeat
Aurora 15h20 18h40
Precious Rose 16h10 19h30
My Heart Beats for Lola 17h00 20h20
Behind Closed Doors 17h50 21h10

6) The Telemundo headquarters are in Miami - the majority of the series are filmed there. Other cities they're filmed in include LA and New York. The channel's content's syndicated in about 100 countries and translated into 35+ languages.

7) The series' stars look like this:

Telemundo 10 Pic 3
David Chocarro (pronounced Daviiiiiid) from Behind Closed Doors.

Telemundo 10 Pic 2
Aylin Mujica and Jorge Luis Pila, stars of Aurora.

Telemundo 10 Pic 4
Daviiiid with Catherine Siazhoque, also from Behind Closed Doors.

Telemundo 10 Pic 5
Rafael Amaya and Angelica Celaya who aren't on
any of the four series. They star in a murder/thriller
called Someone's Watching You - it starts on the
channel in about six months time.

8) The actors work for the channel and not the individual shows so they'll star in multiple series. Most of the series run for about six or seven months so once an actor's been in one show they move on to the next. For instance they'll have a three-year contract and then appear in various shows across that time.

9) 80% of the time the actor's don't know what's going to happen in the show while they're filming it - they don't know how things will unfold. They film close to the US broadcast of shows so often the writers will use social media as a gauge of what people are feeling and thinking about the storyline and then adjust it accordingly.

10) Aylin Mujica wears these groovy sunglasses (I desperately want a pair) and these toe'cruchers:

Daviiiiid is so hot though..... I love the American TV business model. These long contracts give the actors a sense of stability somewhat. They can invest in homes and not rent like their South African counterparts. Telemundo is really taking care of their own. Maybe the upcoming eTV satellite bouquet should adopt this model. God forbid they produce more eKasi crap.

The way the movies are cast shows how in serious the producer and director are. They make the viewers to look like fools and the detectives in both "My heart beats for Lola are like untrainned police while in Behind the closed door, police never exist to carry out investigations. I do know that when somebody sustained a bullet injury when taken to the hospital it is presumed that the police will provide protection for that patient. Unlike behind the closed door and others. Your story line is good but u lack professional touches.

Telemundo you are the best. The group is organized and serious, you can imagine how many stars being paid heafty amounts, they really take care of their own. Thats why they stick together and produce interesting storyline, they do listen to viewers, keep it up Teles. I just love your movies.

The problem for me is that you get to watch the same old faces in every telenovela. How does that enhance the latin TV industry?
