EVICTED Zimbabwean Big Brother Africa (BBA) housemate Hakeem Mandaza says he accomplished his mission in the house because what he wanted from the beginning was to use the BBA show as a platform to market his career as an artiste.

Hakeem is a model, singer and actor.

“I entered BBA just to boost myself as an artiste. Music has always been my first love and I am now looking forwar d to recording some songs, putting my music out there and use the exposure I gained from the show to market myself as an artiste,” he said during a telephone interview.

Hakeem showcased his musical skills by singing for his love, Cleo, from time to time in the house and also used it as a cure for boredom in the house.

Hakeem, who is expected back home at midday today, said he was evicted because a lot of housemates from the Sadc region had been nominated.

“I wasn’t evicted because I didn’t play the game well, but because a lot of housemates from southern Africa were also up for eviction so our votes were split.

People vote for their own and unfortunately for me, I was also up against Pokello and received no vote,” Hakeem said.

Nevertheless, he was satisfied that he gave the game his best shot as it was not easy being locked up in a house with a lot of cameras around.

“There is a lot of tension and emotional flares in the house and I at times felt like giving up. It’s not easy to keep your cool while being monitored by cameras 24 hours a day,” Hakeem said.

He added that his relationship with Zambian lass, Cleo, in the house was real and that they would take things further after the show.

“Cleo is an amazing woman. Our relationship was real because when I entered the house, it was never on my script to have a relationship, but the circumstances and timing was right, I guess,” he said.

Hakeem, a father of one, said he was in a relationship before entering BBA, but parted ways with his partner just before stepping into BBA.

“Before the show, I was in a relationship, but we parted ways a few days before the show because she only started caring about me when she discovered that I was going to represent Zimbabwe at the show. Before that, she was unreal, fake and had no respect for me so I decided to drop her before getting into the house,” Hakeem said.

He said he kept his distance from Pokello in the house because they were two different personalities.

“Pokello wanted to play dirty in the house, while I wanted to play it safe. Pokello is an opinionated person who used to gossip about fellow housemates. She used to call some of them using bad names in Shona so I avoided her from time to time as I wanted to represent my country in a clean manner,” Hakeem said.

Hakeem made it clear that people got him wrong when he said Pokello and him were from two different classes.

“It was a metaphor and what I meant was that Pokello was resident in the Rubies (uptown) house whilst I was resident in the Diamonds (downtown) house,” Hakeem said.

He also explained his relationship with Dillish, the Namibian housemate he never got along well with saying the two were so much alike.

“Dillish and I are very much alike. We were like two bulls in one kraal so it was difficult to operate as we both felt like we were stepping on each other’s toes,” he said.

Hakeem was evicted from BBA on Sunday evening and walked out empty-handed. In some editions of the show, housemates walked out with a few thousands for not swearing whilst in the game, but this year, housemates are walking out empty-handed.

@WSG ... Lol.  To your credit, I remember you saying just that, me wondering what you're on about.  Meanwhile, we Kenyans have to endure the multiple disasters that is Anna B. Oh, I'll get wrinkles from wincing and cringing because of that girl.

BTW, what were you doing up at that unholy hour?  Emails, reports? Has network improved?  I know I had to do that when I was in a more remote area than I am now.

Plus the San TB patients who are staying in tents behind my house in the bushes got paid for harvesting devil claws. Hakeem What was your lowest moment in the house? Apart from the time when Cleo wasn't in the same house with me, I would say my altercation with Dillish. I offer my most humble apology to those who saw it in a different light as I really had no issues with her. It was more of a territorial thing as she and I are too alike. What endeared you to Cleo, what did you love most about her? Cleo is a very amazing woman. From the way she looks, her smile, her personality and her ambition. She is also very romantic and is a good lover. I also love that she has a lot of motherly love. Do you think your relationship with Cleo led to your eviction? Even before Cleo came to our house, I was already a target as I'm a very outspoken person and would not be pushed around. My eviction had nothing to do with Cleo, it was more a question of nationality. What did you think of the Namibian girls? Maria is amazing. She's fun, lively and she's a very realistic person with a great sense of humour. Dillish as I said, is very much like me and that's why we clashed. Could it be that you had romantic feelings for Dillish and perhaps didn't just know how to channel those feelings? Errm... (pause) ... I really can't answer that question as it will give people the wrong idea. Why do you think Zimbabwe voted for Pokello instead of you? Zimbabwe actually voted for me. Pokello got votes from other countries but not from Zimbabwe. Apart from your career as a model, what else do you plan on pursuing now that you are outside the house? I recently discovered that I can sing so I would like to try and establish a singing career. You can definitely expect a bigger and better version of Hakeem.

@nadatheabos I'm actually glad someone finally said it, if I met betty in the streets I'd also refer to her as a "coloured", and even if somalians are africans in terms of locations, we have to admit they don't have the same features that we do (soft hair and all, although I have to admit I can't say much about them because I don't know a lot about them, just basing this on what I have seen from those in cpt). Even Angelo, like keegan and abby of season 1 are coloured, that's just how we see things in sa. I understand completely where dellish is coming from, esp her convo with Betty, dum as it might seem

Any smart person southern african person knows that refering other people as colored is just a southern african thing, when you meet new people from different countries, you are carefull about that because it is a offensive in some countries, USA for one. That they have mixed ethnicity or ambiguous ethnicity wouldn't intrigue me because I know in 2013, it happens...a result of centuries of interracial relationships etc. I find it annoying when Americans go on about how they are 1/6 dutch 1/4 native indian(red indina) 1/2 italian 1/3 black 1/9 puertorican etc.... For me, one's country of origin is all I need to know. Extra info is welcome, but I wouldn't initiate it.

@khadjos, a coloured to me is anyone who identifies as coloured, Elana Africa, Trevor Manuel, Keegan. . When I meet them, they are who they are until they tell me , oh I'm colored. I'm intentionally careful not to call people coloured because politically I know it is a touchy issue, even amongst some south africans. If it came down to actually asking, if I was forced to...my question would be "what race are you"...NOT "are you coloured"... If Delish came out and said she is coloured, I won't argue with her, but white?? Maybe it was the alcohol speaking.

Natasha's DS...she's run thru a lot of emotions dis week.
She knows it's a game but da 1st 3 weeks was hard bein nominated regularly. but now she's okay wit it n can't keep gettin emotional cuz she got saved n shd rather keep doin what she does so they don't waste their monies on her.

She has personal reasons 4 winning da money...she has some orderly dat she takes care of in da rural areas n other pple dat she helps on da side. She promised them dat if she wins she'd give them wheel chairs n others n dat's her motivation. She's attached 2 them n hopes 2 do her best 4 them.

He got upset earlier cuz it's normal 4 pple
He gave pple a chance 2 play around cuz pple's inner child comes out when given props.

They leave him 2 do all da tasks n dis isn't da ist time.

Btw @abbey, Stunner, is supporting Pokello on twitter, few and far inbetween undertones about them being a couple. From the tweets read...he is supporting her, not strongly campaigning, just mere support...nawadamsayin? @MsZim, can the Zim tabloid papers confirm that Pokello and Stunner are still dating? I'm no Pokello fan, but I find it hard to believe she is being cruel to Eli and Fatima for the games'sake. Surely the truth will come out and she'd pay a heavy price for it and I don't think she'd want to ruin her brand like that.

PS: Stunner is stunning!! If that's him on the twitter avatar. And someone mentioned Poki might be into Eli coz of physical similarities with Stunner. I cannot decode Pokello beyond her "marketing her brand"...but Elikem does have some similarities with Stunner, if he (Eli) didn't have all the scars and spots (not his fault), he would be stunning as well.
