Universe update! As you may know, TVSA calculates and publishes the
Primetime TV Ratings weekly.
We provide analysis of the SAARF (South African Audience Research Foundation) TAMS ratings and we compile the information into an easy-to-understand set of viewing figures. We cover SABC 1, 2, 3, e.tv and M-Net.
All television shows (and the bits in between) are measured using ARs. One AR represents a particular number of viewers as stipulated by SAARF.
In order to work out the viewership for a show we multiply the show's AR by the number of viewers per AR.
SAARF constantly assess changes in the TV landscape and regularly update the TAMS universe to ensure that an AR represents the evolving TV environment as accurately as possible. When the universe gets updated the number of viewers per AR also changes.
SAARF updated the universe first thing this year: on Monday 14 January 2013. The number of viewers per AR has increased marginally as a result.
The AR value for Adults (15+) has gone up from 300, 390 viewers per AR to 306, 090 viewers per AR.
One child AR has increased from 94, 520 viewers per AR to 94, 950 viewers per AR.
Any figures that we publish about shows that aired from 14 January 2013 onwards will be calculated on these new figures.
