Box Office final

On Friday (22 July) DStv launched Box Office, the paycaster's new Video on Demand service.

It's accessible from the PVR TV Guide Menu and offers a selection of 15 VOD movies that have been released to DVD after their cinema run but aren't available for TV broadcast yet.

Box Office 4

In case you aren't familiar with how it works: it costs R25 to have access to a movie for 48 hours. You pay for it via credit card or by loading funds onto your Box Office account.

There are 15 movies available at any given time - the titles change as new titles become available. According to DStv, 150 titles will be made available over the first year.

These are the titles that have been available this weekend:

Box Office 5

Box Office 2

Box Office 3

So what do you think of it? Have you tried it? Will you? Is it too expensive or worth it to avoid the video shop? Sound off below.

Honestly R25.00 is extremely expensive I might as well take a walk to the video shop.

It's a great idea - however here are some thoughts of mine: *R25 is a bit too much. It should have been priced at around R15 per title. Considering they're just beaming it to you through your PVR and there's no other expenses like disc, service and admin cost like an actual video store would incur. *Total cost should be added to your DSTV payment for that month, then you'd just pay your total bill + movies rented. This is more convenient. *DStv should have allowed PVR subscribers one free title as a launch promo. *They should have more titles and organise it by genre. *I love that they offer free trailers - I spent Friday afternoon watching all the free trailers. *i would be great if they could include classic titles aswell - that which they don't air already on their other movie channels and should be avaliable as a Free-on-Demand scale - if this ever happens they can minimize the amount of Movie Channels avaliable to Premium/PVR viewers and offer a service to them which allows viewers to watch movie titles whenever suites them and not track down its endless repeat - much like DoD does with the series offerings *Lastly they should allow viewer requests to new titles we'd like to see!

Is this available to Premium Subscribers only.

I think its also expensive and did they say only available for 24 hours.

Yip, Maki, Pity these movies can be found on the streets at a lower price,ey, the pirates

I agree with this statement.

The repeats are tiring, everytime i sit down to watch TV, i will see the movie i watched on etv a few years back being repeated for the 3rd time. They can do away with these repeats. You cant miss something 4 times, what about those who have already watched, the likes of Shaft, Wolf,

HI guys. I've tried it and it worked fine. R25 is a bit pricy but it's the same as the video rental shops for new movies. It is available for 48 hours and the first movie was free. I wouldn't be using it all the time but it's a nice option for when you missed something at the movies and don't want to wait for it to air on DSTV.

The idea of having the fees incorporated to your Dstv payment makes sense but i think the reason why DSTV is not doing that is a pricing tactic.having say 75 rands on top of your dstv payment will be balked at by us but you can make 3 or 4 movie purchases with your card through this service impulsively.
Also if it is included with your dstv payment how many movies will you be willing to pay for monthly?
dstv is hoping that you would buy more unplanned movies through this ervice than you will be willing to pay for if included with your monthly payment.
i think they have to look into the 48 hrs duration.seems a bit too short for 25 dollars.
