Bloggers Becoming Celebs

I just read the Motswako article and thought i should share this concern with the blogers. It seems some blogrs have managed to create careers out of blogging. That is a good thing and we should be proud of them but I have a serious problem with whats going on recently. Let me start with tvsa before people say we are joelous of oither sites iff we write about its owners. I joined this site after reading one of Blaqueboi's article in a chain mail that was being sent via yahoo. i immediately fell in love wiuth his style of writting.

For a year I have been a religious reader of his blog and loved it even when i dindt agree with some of his views. This year he got a job with class act and decided to leave tvsa. Makisto interviewed him and in the article mentioned that Blaque had written an article about Brown Shuga when she was in RGB. Makisto begged him to take the critisism that he will give him as Blaque has also made a career out od being honest in his critisism of celebs. What botheres me is when Blaque said to makisto or here in tvsa that he can not discuss Nonhle because she is her friend. I remember I said something on the blogs to Blaque that since Nonhle is his friend he will still write stuff about her that are negative. Gues what, Phil has not reviewed Nonhle's show or even written about the drama on twitter with Nonhle not paying for her pictures.

Today I loggeed on to his site and there is some drama about Lunga Shabalala getting the Selimathunzi job. I have always thought Phil was pushing this Lunga boy in his site. I actually at some point commented that Phil maybe has a crush on him. The article when i read it seems balanced but some readers attacked Phil saying he has a vendetta against lunga and he is jealous. I got confused thats when I came to tvsa and saw the article ya Makisto saying Lelo Boyana is fast becoming a celeb and she will be on magazines.

Now when this bloggers become celebs and being friends with them acn we still regard them as impartial. If there are certain people that they will write about good or bad but others they will only write the good. My take on the Lunga article is that Phil was kinda trying to protect Lunga. he is actually attacking the guy who make the story that Lunga should not get the job cos he is sleeping his way to TV. Is that fair? Should bloggers use their platform to protect other celebs and trash others who they dont like? Brown Shuga is back non our screens now with all this tv appearances and Blaque is doing that Class Act thing.

Can JC still regard BS's opinion impartial or can we here on TVSA still take Phil seriously when he picks and chooses who he can wirte about. I know Phil hasn't been writing for TVSA since he started his site mara a lot of his support on the new site comes from tvsa. I have seeen some TVSA bloggers commenting on his Facebook. Should bloggers became celebrities? Or do people blog to become celebs?

I think this was the main concern that this whole post needs to be highlighting. Everything else is just a lot of wishwash getting on the way. Blaque this, Phil that, Kgopolo then...////yawn///

Sir/Ma'am

I am confused by the point of this article. You mention a lot of this and ask lots of question that have no cohesion. I get a feeling that the intention behind this article was to question Phil's credibility but you also want to be nice and not offend him.

What I am getting out of this mixed masala is:

1. You have an issue with Phil for not writting negative stuff about Nonhle

2. You think Phil is protecting Lunga by writting the article responding to the comment on Mika's site

3. You have a problem with people who supposed to be writting about celebs becoming celebs.

My questions was then: Are these just speculations or facts.?

Has Phil not ever written anything negative about his friends?

Has Brown Shuga never written anything negative about her friends?

sarocks
29 Mar 2011 13:13

ok fine Im not a writer and this is my first article on this site. no need to be rude.

Cammy23
29 Mar 2011 13:23

I don't mean to offend anyone or defend anyone but I do know this is called tact.

Unfortunately in trying to be tactful he jumbled up this article. I understand that giving the information about the fact that he likes Phil was his way of making sure that this does not come across as an attack but honestly I think the article could have worked without it.

The Lunga part is relevant because it give sense of why he came to have this problem with bloggers. That all I was saying.

mina i noticed gore some writers will criticise someone/celebrity/celebrity-blogger and then they meet them get star struck receive a hug or something and then they come back and change tune and tell us to go easy or be fair on those celebrities

blaqueboi
29 Mar 2011 13:57

Hi guys.

Lol, I have summoned to address this issue so here goes.

Firstly let me start by clearing something up with you, Rocks. I did not just wake up in 2007 and decided to join TVSA so I can build a career out of it. What you may not know is that I have been in this industry for over 9 years. My very first article on this site had nothing to do with the industry. It was about relationships, "Seasonal Lovers". I just wanted to share my thoughts on the subject and get TVSA bloggers' opinions.  TVSA soon became sort of a diary for me. Naturally since television was part of my life I started sharing my thought on subjects that were related to it.

Long before what is happening in my career now I had worked as a scriptwriter, done corporate ads for CNA and acted in a show called Following Jesus. I knew that acting was not my thing but I wanted to be part of this industry so 7 years later when, thorough blogging, I realised that entertainment reporting was something I could be good at, I pursued it. Blogging did in deed give me a platform to start a career as an entertainment reporter and I have been grateful for that but believe me it is not what prompted me to get into this industry.

Recognition comes with being in  this industry and if you wanna succeed you can not ignore it. Of course it also comes with the celebrity tag and I can tell you right now I have no problems with that. I enjoy the perks that come with having people know your name and inviting you to cool events. Otherwise I would have stayed at IHS and forgot about the entertainment industry all together if I didn't enjoy it.

In essence I did not blog to become a celebrity but when I realised the potential in blogging to help my dreams and career prospects, I grabbed it. As you will now see with my website. It is a platform for me to share my experiences, thoughts and opinions on the industry and life in general.

I have bills to pay and will not let an opportunity for me to make a living out of something I enjoy doing pass me by simply because I don't want someone who has his own life to think that I am selling out. That would be stupid. If you can make money out of blogging and with that you end up having celebs as your friends then I would encourage you to not feel bad about. At the end of the day, blog readers read the articles and continue with their lives whether you become a celeb or not.

Now let me read this over again and answer your questions individually. :)

Sarocks please say something....!!

29 Mar 2011 14:24

I can not speak for Brown Shuga aka Lelo so I will speak for myself. I have never been a gossip writer nor am I a journalist so I do not have any obligation to reveal any information or address any story that is out there about a celeb.

RE: Nonhle

If I choose not to write about Nonhle's show or her scandals, I think I am entitled to that. Nonhle is not my bossom buddy. We do not have slumber parties together but our friendship is based on mutual respect about our journeys within this industry. I respect her and have gotten some advice and inspiration on how to conduct myself in this industry. This presenting thing is something new to me and Nonhle has been the one person that I could look up to as a friend and get some advice. Because of that I can not be part of any thing that may damage her career or brand as I would hope she would do the same for me.

I chose not to review her show because I knew I could not in all honesty be impartial. This is like to write or say something about your sister. You can do it in private  but not in a public forum. It's just not right.

Re: Lunga

I think it's best that I leave the Lunga thing because there are lot of misunderstanding in this whole thing. If by reading that article you think I am protecting him and that Mlungisi person thinks I am trying to destroy him then I can not really give an answer that would please both of you. All I can tell you is that if he felt the article was a problem, he would have contacted me and he hasn't so I assume that he is smart enough to read it in the context it's written in.

Don't forget that sometimes people will plant seeds on to something that is innocent to try and push their own agendas. Read the article again and if you still think I am protecting him then, that's your opinion and I respect it as I hope you would mine.

Re; Blogging and befriending celebs

We are all human afterall so inevitably if you keep meeting someone at these events you will end up being friendly with them. Just get a few invites to these events and you will see that after the 10th or so event there will be certain people that you connect with. Right now I know that if I go cover a red carpet event Kuli Roberts will be there and coincidentally we always end up next to each other on the spot we take to cover the event. How can I then not talk to her or greet her the next time I see her elsewhere?

The same goes for Zizo Beda. She is at almost every event that I attend so naturally we have started chatting and venting when we bump into each other. It's more like a working enviroment this. Surely if you work in an office you form some forms of friendship with you colleagues. It doesn't mean they will coming to your house or anything like that.

 PS;

I believe in loyalty and will go to the ends of the world for people who have my back. If that makes you think I am a 'suck-uper" then touche. TVSA gave me a platform and because of that I am still in close contact with Tashi who helped with the launch of my site.

I am constantly in contact via FB with my TVSA friends who engage with me on the network. Simply because I appreciate their support and friendship. For that I will never ever cause a rift between myself and people who have been behind me all the way just so that I can score some few hits on my site or nay of my articles.

Since when does a blog have to be fair and factual?

That is why it is called a blog and it is all about one’s opinion and it does not have to be factual or fair.

Has Phil not ever written anything negative about his friends?
Has Brown Shuga never written anything negative about her friends?
Please do give us names of close friends of the 2 above individuals and lets see if they have written anything negative about them.

What you may not know is that I have been in this industry for over 9 years.

To put this into perspective, let me give you a practical simple example.

Go to any Mental Institution around 21h00 Monday - Friday and see what the patients there are watching on their TV sets. I can tell you now they won't be watching Muvhango.

Try to change whatever channel they are watching and tune to Muvhango and they will show you what makes the grass green.

Now there's a blogger by the name of Makisto who's busy trying to revive this boring sopies or whatever they it by writing about it weekly. Makisto has not gotten a job yet from Muvhango but he's sucking up big time to it's casts. Now just imagine how much he's gonna lick their asses once they give him a part as an extra there?

I am of the opinion that people should write abou8t whatever they feel like writing about.

If BrownShuga and Blaq dont want to write about someone then it's their choice.  It was their choice to write about certain people and it remains their choice whether they choose to write about certain people or not. They are not forced to.

Remember Rocks that they write/wrote for fun. It was not to say they must now review everything. Just like no one forced you to write about Blaq Rocks

I do agree with you however, that Blaq should review Nonhle's show.

Not trivialising Rock's blog  and her questions...but @ VusiK, i think its one of those blogs that are more personal than general, so that you may not get the point unless you have the inside stories and history  from here and there and the other side and you are emotionally invested one way or another.....  personally, i cant help. But if you are that interested, hopefully someone will explain....

Cammy23
31 Mar 2011 12:02

I understand your concern @Vusi

I too didn't get the point behind the article until it was clearly in the comments. Like GA says you need to read between the whole thing thing to get it. I think this should have just been a two sentence article but Rock tried to make it a full article by adding some background information that just confuses the topic.

Let's just give him a chance. In time he/she will get it right. Hopefully. In the meantime those who "get it" will clarify for us who don't.

Are you refering that Lybyian war article?.....actualy havent caught up with the comments there but i must coz i realy want to "center" my all over the place opinions about the state of the world and tvsa is always great help with debates and issues.  But ill just ask and probe when relevant blog platforms arise.

I probably have, however, they were probably so fleeting that they were discarded in the frenzy I call work. I've really been extremely busy. Setting up a global operation with other people's money requires absolute single mindedness, and I have been just that ... single-mindedly focused on the task I am charge with. I'm here till August formally, I need to settle my estate and corporatize myself and file emigration with the Reserve bank and tax authorities. This is truly as complicated as I tell it. The result has to be that I must not be answerable to the South African Govt., or any of its authorities once I leave. I don't like the ~ZA tax code ... the americans screwed our minds and lives when we transposed their tax code instead of designing our own.

@Gree.Arrow ... Lol ,, I tell it like it is ... I should be famous for forthright candor by now .... Sometimes, I believe people don't appreciate pr*cks like me because people don't enjoy their true reflections ... it is too easy to see pretty in the dead brazilian's hair one's surgically stitched onto one's scalp and say ...""Aaahh The real me looks great tonight" .... "Let's go out and knock e'm dead"" .... It won't change the reality that one's got a bald spot from the chemical relaxer, but if it makes 'em feel great to live the illusion ... Power to them. I just keep sh*t real! nobody has to like it, after all, I could be a complex computer code F*cking with everyone's psyche and not a real person at all! That's the risk of Cyber!
