We've all seen them. Even before reading the blog/article, they have posted the celebratory comment and want to show off that they were finally first in something in their miserable life.
Now I think I speak for most authors when I say that constructive criticism and on-topic comments help open up the discussion but these flawed character, driven only by the inadequacies of their lives and rushing to claim the first spot can piss off even the mildest of personality types.
I had a chat with my brother recently about the dangers poised by social networks and TV these days (more on this later). If you put him in a room with a woman, he wouldn't utter a single word that would entice her to believing that he is capable of a real relationship. Give him MXit, Lamebook or Twit_I_r and he'll be the biggest charmer out there. He has 1000+ friends online but has never brought a girl home even when my folks and neighbours were out of the country. He is one of those kids who were told that he'd never amount to anything in life by high school teachers; but through TVSA - he is always first.
This has given him a new lease on life. It has brought him new confidence. He may not have much or anything at all to say but the fact that his name appears FIRST is everything. He'll do anything to get that first spot.
Is there anything that says "loser" more than First! Freddy? Probably! The tweet @Julius_S_Malema once alluded to the fact that anyone that there are people who are hell bent on proving how accurate and concise their grammar and English vocab is. Not to say that it is excusable to write a full article in SMS lingo or intentionally break all laws of the English language but some common decency is required when posting an article for the masses to consume.
Advice to First! Freddy:
Get a life! Simple as that.
I read an article ions ago about the pussification of the US but I see it flowing to SA now. More and more we live for the web. We live virtual lives and with numbers of obesity rising - we keep feeding the need to stay on our cellphones and computers without actually exercising. Not just our bodies, but our minds as well. (Wii Fit doesn't count.)
How do you feel about First! Freddy?
