Ekasi Really Not Ayoba

Written by Sipho Xolisa Tshapu from the blog Mzansi TV! I love it (not always though) on 14 Sep 2010

So last night was the final episode of the Ekasi: Our Stories series on ETV. I usually thought the saying went Save the Best for Last?

But what I and (I can speak for my other friends as well) were watching was definitely not the best, even some of the Nollywood movies are better than that. Ulibambe Lingashoni: The Curse was really bad; it was GPY (Giligidi Phantsi Yintsini) case.

Yes the storyline did possess some good elements like when Mkhozi was educating about how misunderstood Ndebele women are, and when Chiskop and Dreads talked about their future dreams and perseverance, but
hay nkosi yami konk’okunye bingumsangano nje.

Firstly the acting was not parshash, you could see that these guys are acting, ne ba etsa sketch, then it was the two gorillas walking around the neighbourhood carrying guns and pointing them at everyone that was in front of them, that to me did not make sense. I mean how do you do that?

Then the part ka mfundisi and the sangoma with leggings and watching movies on his laptop. Then the same mfundisi was swearing and cursing, then the following day he was seen ebambisile and a bottle of black label.

Hay ETV really, nimoshile this time.

i always watch those Ekasi stories, and i really enjoy them. I watch them for the entertainment part of it, i watch the mistakes they make, i watch for the pathetic storyline and bad acting and camera angles.

really sad they are done..cant wait for the third season.

I have actually watched this series from the 1st episode to the last one and found them fresh and relevant to the society.

Then the same mfundisi was swearing and cursing, then the following day he was seen ebambisile and a bottle of black label.
I have a friend who's the "Parish Priest"/ Father at one of the Roman Catholic Churches, he drinks and swears worse thatn a sailor and currently he has 3 girlfriends that I know of.

Firstly the acting was not parshash, you could see that these guys are acting, ne ba etsa sketch
Sketch is usually how things happen in real life, actors do not wear make-up and there are no retakes.

Do you prefer things to be like in generations where you find Sarah the Domestic Worker always wearing expensieve clothes? Or Ruby the Shebeen Owner rubbing shoulders with the CEO's of big companies?

No but we prefer things done properly and convincing.

I must have watched 2 of these and last nyt a fell dead asleep after they were fighting for that suitcase...that was hillarious and quite convincing.

Re: Ekasi Really Not Ayoba
I have to say, like MaWiNiZa i watch to laugh at those technicalities went wrong...they kill me with laughter..sometimes i cringe at how bad some things are, but im never offended. And every so often i appreciate how the storyline is actually not so bad. Its the same viewing i get when im watching Bophelo ke semphego..

Speaking of which...was anyone as pissed of as i was on friday when SABC 2 just suddenly quit airing Bophelo ke semphego for Mokgonyana mmatswale?..i was quite angry because that is waht i conciders disrespect towards vieweres..now that was not ayoba. BUT i got over it quickly, coz  they are like 6 and 9. If they'll be doing this changing them dramas as they like, they must drop in bo matsatsela while they at it....

I think Ekasi has potential, it was the first time watching it and did not finish it but I must say the little that I saw hilarious. But hhawu when they ran away and left the briefcase with money, I was like WTF?

its Lunch Bar OVIAS that Ekasi stories for now are just CRAP..(thats why there was that "other" debate from the "other" site to this site..about etv's sponsored productions)

I cant believe there are people here who think just because the storyline resonates with true life stories, THAT MEANS JOB WELL DONE....there's more to tvdrama/film making than just the story ..the minute we accept such mediocre or plain BAD productions we are reducing our stds to HLATHIWOOD

hope tehya re reading this and wil work on their game..becaue the series project  HAS potential..if its in the rite hands

OK, let me first get something out of the way. This GPY thing is making me laugh because now really: Gilikidi - uyawa ke ngoku caba! hahahaha

Now let's get down to business. I just saw those from day one that they are not worth my time. Even from their "trailors" I could sense what you complaining about.

I hate programmes on tv where I could just feel that these people are acting. It should come as reality - make me believe.

Ntsiki and Julia on Generations were getting, rude response from the views who believed they were those (characters) people they potrayed on tv, a response that shows that you are doing a good job.

Well if I want to watch a sketch, I'm sure there's a group in ekasi that does that. So the next time you try to do something, don't just try - do it! and do it well please.
