Yes, that.

I know it's been talked about everywhere else yesterday and the day before already, but if anything could move us away from plus minus gayness....at least this should.

It may appear bizarre but it’s real. Ben, 44, and his 35-year-old wife, Angela, both of Igbo extraction and with dark skin, had brought to life a baby that is completely white in the United Kingdom.

Neither of them knew of any white ancestry in their family. Yet the couple is now proud parents of a blue-eyed, white-skinned girl with curly blonde hair.

This kind of stuff happens. It's their childs. Genes can play tricks on people. Think of the South African white couple who had a black child during the Apartheid era??? Just forgot her name - there's a book and movie about her. Ish can happen. Sadly we all don't know what our grandfathers got up to.

My first reaction would be to scream fould play.

But this blondie looks like the lil girl on the pic. She's gonna be more coloured than white though when she's older.

this happens, just like black parents giving birth to Albino's, maybe teh kid was going to be an Albino but teh white genes dominated the balck genes, we also have a story of black woman who was bron by white parents in teh apartheid era. i forgot teh book, but it's true.

Melanocyte-stimulating hormone gets its name because of its effect on melanocytes: skin cells that contain the black pigment, melanin. In humans, melanocytes are responsible for moles, freckles, and suntan (and, if they turn cancerous, melanoma).

In most vertebrates, MSH is produced by an intermediate lobe of the pituitary gland. Its secretion causes a dramatic darkening of the skin of fishes, amphibians, and reptiles. The darkening occurs as granules of melanin spread through the branches of specialized melanocytes called melanophores.

The photomicrograph on the right shows melanophores in the skin of a frog with the melanin dispersed throughout the branches of the cells. This effect is produced by MSH. When the pigment retreats to the center of the cells, the skin lightens.

The granules are carried outward along microtubules using kinesin as the motor.
They assemble at the actin-rich periphery of the cell carried by myosin.
The granules are carried back to the center of the cell along microtubules using dynein as the motor.
The photo below was taken a few moments after the frog on the right was injected with a small dose of MSH.

The response to MSH does not occur during mitosis; presumably the microtubules with their dyneins and kinesins are needed for operation of the mitotic spindle.

Can white parents have a black baby? Even if the grandparents are white too?

Tough question to answer but here's my best shot. It certainly seems possible for two white people to have a black baby even if the baby's grandparents appear white as well. Even though the genetics behind all of this are really poorly understood, there are lots of stories where white parents have black babies. In fact, one such story may become a movie (see the link below).

There are genetic tests that supposedly can tell you what races are in your background. The FBI used one company's test to figure out that a serial killer in Louisiana was black and not white as they had initially thought (see the link below). This helped the FBI redirect their efforts and catch the serial killer.

The science behind these tests is that there are certain sequences of DNA associated with certain races. Over the past 100,000 years or so, people migrated out of Africa in waves and spread out over the world. The waves of migrations left a pattern in their DNA because:

1) Each group that settled in a region from a particular wave was relatively small
2) Each group was isolated from the rest of humanity for a certain amount of time.

Because of this, each group developed their own pattern or profile of DNA changes. Scientists can now sequence the DNA of various racial groups and figure out what changes are found only within a certain racial group. Until recently, the racial groups that could be identified were restricted to Native American, East Asian, European, and sub-Saharan African. Further research has expanded the list of possible ethnic groups.

Hope this helped answer your question. As you can see, your friend's situation is rare but not unique.

Thanks Carino, we have been talking about this since Tuesday. The only conclusion i have come to regarding this is: God just want to show us that to Him we are not different, we are just His people that he doesnt differentiate with skin color. We have been so obsessed with skin color, we call each other with our skin color, the level of respect, the way we treat each other, the way we talk to each other, the way we love each other, the way we praise or descriminate each other is too dependent on skin color, So God is just saying to us "He doesnt look at us through our skin color",

Im only praying that the couple doesnt fall into the trap that the devil might throw to them because of this ie wife's faithfulness being questionable now and all that and just realise that This is God being God. She is a miracle child carrying a very strong message to the world.

I understand melanin to be a chemical that gives your skin pigment (colour). The more melanin you have the darker you are and the less you have the lighter skinned you are.

Albinism is a condition that exists if people (animals and plants can get albinism too btw) don't have enough amount of melanin in their body.

Now you can be born totally black - your system producing enough melanin to keep you black. But then things can get messed up and you don't produce enough. Which is why you can turn white in some spots (like hands, feet and eyes) at the extreme your whole body can turn white. This is not cancer at all. Just no melanin.

There are benefits to melanin, it protects you against sun-rays. Which is why most black folk will believe that the sun can't hurt them - they have enough melanin. Not the normal explanation, I have a natural tan and don't need the sun. If you are lighter skinned though you are at risk of getting skin cancer from UV rays. Again, lack of melanin is no sign of cancer... just means you are at a higher risk of getting it.

Pele - this time its Genes playing tricks on them... DNA tests were done and it's both their child. But I suspect that somewhere in their ancestory - there were white folks. This child in not an albino, she's white. I don't know how the science works, but I've seen strange things. Maybe not as strange as this... but, how do you expain 2 ugly parents giving birth to a totally beautiful doll like child??? No one questions that - but something like this we question. I know its sort of an irrelavant example.

Google the Sandra Laing story - you'll find out more about how possible this is.

To those who r thinking the baby mightt haave been swapped around by nurses, in UK mothers have private rooms in which the birth takes place. Husbands, friends and relatives are allowed during the procedure and its usually 1 midwife and an assistant assigned per mother unless there is complication or for c-sections thats when doctors and anaesthetist to administer epidural if chosen, The choices of babies being mixed up is zilch

I agree with you Lela..in SA..yr inlaws will demand to know the truth abt the white baby even after the partenirty has been established. They will always think there is smthing u still not telling. No miracle baby ngandawo apha, chaza isiduko salomntana azokwenzelwa amasikko aright..lol
