After watching 3rd degree last night, i was so disappointed that 3rd degree focused only on drug lords who are always not caught by police and bribing police - leaving a vast pool of crimes occuring in Eldo's.
The very same applies to crimes like car theft, car hijacking, theft, house breaking and rape, which are very popular in eldo's and the culprits still run loose.
An in-law of mine was car-hijacked in eldos early in february this year. We had to do our own investigation as police failed to act on some important leads we had found. The police found the badly burnt shell of the vehicle in ext 6 eldos.
The car was a fully customized Polo Playa and I knew that we would find the parts in eldos. One sunday my inlaw was called for an ID parade to point out possible suspects whom were found chopping the burnt vehicle and were arrested only to find that those were just old people collecting metal scrap.
We waited 'n waited until such time as I decided to go sit outside the eldos police station. I chose a spot where I could have a very good view of all directions. I had hoped that today I would spot something from the Polo. I sat there and saw many cars passing at the police station for about 2 hours.
As it was time for us to go I saw my in-law coming out of the police station and i decided to call it a day. As I was approaching him there was this silver car coming straight at the opposite direction and something in me instructed me to pay attention to that silver vehicle.
As my in-law was giving me feedback on how the ID parade went, my eyes were glued to that silver vehicle and could not even concentrate on what he was saying then I saw the momo mag wheels he had on his polo on that silver vehicle and immediately told him that it was his wheels that has just passed us.
He did not believe me, he said it's not them as he did not see them. I quickly instructed him that we follow the silver car. We went to the vehicle we came with and followed the silver car. To his shock it was indeed his mag wheels that just went passed the eldos police station. We went back to the police station to get the investigating officer - who was still busy with another parade - we were told to wait.
By that time my senses were telling me that the silver vehicle would be moving from the location we saw it from and indeed it moved. I instructed the driver of the car that we came with to follow that silver vehicle so that we can come with the police as my in-law was still waiting for the investigating officer.
They followed the car to ext 6 - by the time the investigating officer came they were just parking on the police station parking lot. I gave the registration number of the silver vehicle to the investigating officer and we high tailed to where the silver vehicle was. When we got there, the silver vehicle was parked on the outside driveway of the house and once more told the officers that these are our mag wheels.
The officers went inside and my in-law identified that person whom was driving the silver vehicle as the driver who drove away the car at the crime scene and he was arrested on the spot.
The elders from that house - at first they were not co-operative and said that they bought the mags where they sell mag wheels in eldos and the mags are new, I mean *bleep!* hell anyone can tell that the mags are not new as they hard scratches.
When they were asked by officers to drive the silver vehicle to the police station, they said they dont have the silver vehicle keys - police immediately instructed them that they will call a police tow truck to tow the silver vehicle to the police station, that was when they started to co-operate to say they paid R5000.00 in two payments and the mags were fitted by the hijackers on wednsday.
Now already we had a contact for these criminals to be arrested and the elders from that house were prepared to assist us in nabbing these criminals but several times they have called the investigating officer on the whereabouts of these criminals and he had done nothing to act on the information that was given to him.
They ended up calling me on numerous occassions because of the support we did not get from the investigating officer. I mean I am just a law abiding citizen - not a law enforcer - now I must act as law enforcer and risk being arrested again by the law enforcers.
I dont have any form of a firearm and ammunition now I must go approach criminals who use firearms and think that God will protect me in such instances, I dont think so.
Lack of police response at it's best, or maybe they have too much cases on their plate? beats me or are they being bribed by hijack syndicate ganglords? It's what I also suspected as we had almost everything to arrest these criminals but lack of police response where needed most.
Walk down the street drinking alcohol you'll see them running to arrest you. Police visibility is there but suprisingly enough people still cary out their day to day criminal activities. I have lost faith in the police as not one istance but on many other instances that have occured in the past.
I think we should just take law into our own hands because nothing gets done. Our own police will encourage you not to stop at night, what if that person really needs your help? You pass him/her while there are criminals whom have been watching like hyenas waiting to strike.
