Episode 610
The Package

I was not completely overwhelmed by this episode. There were some interesting revelations, though.

This week’s side flash deals with Sun and Jin and their illicit affair. In this alternate timeline, Sun and Jin are not married, but are having an affair. The money that Jin had in his possession was to be paid to Keamy, who it seems, is an assassin hired by Sun’s father to murder Jin.

When Keamy realises (with the help of his Korean translator – Mikhail), he sends Sun (who claims to have money in a secret account) and Mikhail to the bank. He keeps Jin prisoner, tying him up in the kitchen of a restaurant. At the bank, Sun learns that the funds have been transferred and that the accounts been closed by her father.

Back at the restaurant, Sayid shows up and severely wounds Keamy and kills his men. When Mikhail and Sun return, Jin attacks Mikhail with a knife, but Mikhail shoots twice. Mikhail and Jin then struggle and it ends when Jin shoots Mikhail right through his eye. But Sun has been shot; there’s blood gushing from her tummy. Jin picks her up and that’s when she reveals that she is pregnant.

Meanwhile, in the original timeline, Monster-Locke’s campsite is under surveillance. Monster-dude approaches Jin and asks him if he has been told about the cave with the names on it. He then tells Jin that the name Kwon is also there but they don’t know if it means Sun or Jin. When Jin responds that Sun is not even there, Monster-Locke tells him that she’s on the island, that he’s seen her.

MLocke leaves the camp after telling Sayid to keep an eye on the camp. As soon as MLocke leaves, Jin starts packing up his stuff to leave, saying that he’s getting out before that thing comes back. Before he can leave, however, everyone is attacked on the beach and left unconscious. Jin is dragged away by Widmore’s men.

When Jin comes to, he’s locked in a room with metal walls and a lot of speakers. When he flips a switch, he sees projected images saying things like “Everything Changes”. We, of course, know that this is where Karl was being held on Hydra Island. He flips the switch again and shuts it off.

Zoe (Glasses) unlocks the door and asks him to help her identify pockets of electromagnetism on the island, as it seems that Jin was the one who originally drew the maps. Jin wants to speak to Widmore before he can get any answers. Lucky for him, Widmore wants to speak to him too.

Charles Widmore shows Jin pictures from a camera he supposedly found on the wreck of the Ajira flight. It contains pictures of Sun and Ji Yeon – Jin’s daughter who he has never seen before. Widmore tells Jin that if “that thing” got off the island, everyone they love would cease to be. When Jin asks how he intends stopping it (ie, Monster Locke), Widmore tells him that it’s time to see “the package”.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, Jackass and co are discussing what to do. Illana still maintains that they wait for Richard. Sun walks away angrily into the jungle where Jackass finds her clearing her overgrown garden. Jackass tells her about Jacob’s lighthouse but Sun doesn’t care about being a candidate. All she wants is to be with Jin.

A while later, Monster-Locke appears. He tells het that Jin is with him, with his people across the island and offers to take Sun to him. She doesn’t believe him and she runs away from him, but he chases her. She runs into a branch of a tree and passes out. Ben finds her unconscious and revives her. But surprisingly, Sun can’t speak any English.

Back at the beach and after examing Sun, Jackass tells them all that Sun has concussion. Furthermore, she can understand English, but for some unknown reason she can only speak Korean. At that point Richard returns. He tells them all to pack up as they are leaving – they’re going to hydra island to blow the plane up.

Sun angrily tells Richard (in Korean) that she’s not going anywhere as she’s not going to destroy their only means of transport off the island. She stalks off. Much later, Jack approaches as she is sitting on the beach. He brings and pen and pad. She may not be able to speak English, but she can still write in English.

She tells Jackass that she didn’t trust Locke, and when asked, she says that she trusts Jackass. Jack promises to reunite her with Jin and get them on that plane back home. She accepts the hand he holds out to her.

Meanwhile, MLocke has returned to his camp to find all his people unconscious. He wakes Sayid up. When he finds out that Jin has been taken, he prepares to head off to the Hydra Island along with Sayid.

Claire asks him if her name is on that list. Monster assures her than even though her name was not on the list, he still needs her and there is plenty room on the plane. When asked about Kate, he responds that her name is not there, but he needs her because she can get the 3 people he needs to get off the island. He says that once they get those 3 people, whatever happens, happens.

Smokey gets to the Hyrda island, which is now housing sonar pylons all across the beach. Widmore knows that Smokey is not Locke and denies knowing anything about Jin when asked about him. Smokey says to Widmore that "A wise man once said that war is coming to this island, I think it just got here."

Much later, when it’s dark out, Sayid silently surfaces near the sub. Desmond is dragged out and dumped on the pier. He opens his eyes and sees Sayid before being dragged away.

Key points (Very, very briefly)
• Desmond is the “package”.... Er... Why? What is so important about Desmond? What does Widmore hope to achieve by bringing Des to the island and what makes him think that whatever Des has to say will help him convince Jin to help do whatever it is that Widmore wants from Jin? So many questions!!
• Sun can’t speak English! It’s very interesting because Sun in the side world does not seem to be able to speak English either. In this original timeline, Sun learnt to speak English because she was planning to run away from Jin. In the side timeline, she was never married to Jin but is still planning on running away – but this time with Jin using money she’s “kept aside”.

Very interesting. I’ve heard and read interesting theories that because her side-flash self can’t speak English, then this Sun would not be able to speak English either. But that opens up a whole can of worms.

I apologise for the short recap (again). I’ll endeavour to do better.
