House Breaking

I have read about house breakings and scary crime scenes that occur in this country but i never thought that i will ever be a victim. I have been mugged in the past but the only valuable thing that i could lose was my cellphone and few rands. Few weeks ago i received a phone call from my neighbour informing that they broke into my house. At frist i thought it was April's fool until i realised that we are in the middle of winter. It was around 13:30pm. I then informed my manager and i hit the road. On my way i was asking myself lot of questions, "how?" where was the security guard? and what did they take? I was so stressed as i was driving to my place.

Thanks God i arrived safely. At the gate i asked the security guard ukuthi what happened at no.65. He answered with his zimbabwean accent " angazi mina, angi bonanga nix, be yi gijima kakhulu imoto" At that point i felt like giving him a hot klap. I mean all visitors sign in before they enter premises and sign out on their way out, and the security is the only person who opens the gate. I then went in and left him standing at the gate, his eyes where wide open like Mugabe's when he realised that Tsangarai won the elections and he has to come up with a plan.

Indeed when i got in, the house was empty. I called the cops and they took their time and 2 hours later they finally arrived. They took statements from myself and my neighbour. She was an eye witness. She saw everything, but she thought i was moving out, only later she realised that the door was broken. Constables who came to the crime scene did not even take security guard's statement, they just told me that i am not the only one, crime in Midrand is out of hand...

I lost all my  furniture, cd+dvd's, jewellery, perfumes, "selected clothes" and all my booze. I could not even take a tot to relieve shock. It is six weeks now, and no word from the cops... yahhhh neehhh talk about justice in this country.

My heart is still aching because this was an inside job. Someone who knows me very well did this to me and security guard assisted.
so bloggers, lets go... Have you ever been a victim of crime? And was there any justice done?

@Potsotso.

Why did you not go to the security guard at night wearing a mask to cover your face and beat the *bleep!* of of him with a cricket bat. Then you tell (disguise your voice). Tell him you know where he lives and you;re going to attack his family next.

Then a few days later you get someone to go to him at "work" and tell him to return the furniture or his family will get hurt. Also get that person to tell him that he knows where he is originally from and you have contacts who can make sure that his family is dead by the next time he crosses the border going home.

He will bring back the furniture I tell you. Especially if you hit him with the cricket bat on his knee and his manhood.

I was a victim they took my spare keys.
At my parents place they used to rob every time it rained, the insurance companies never wanted to insure my parents house, they told them it is in a risky area. But now the area is more secure they wont even attemp to coz it is a busy area. We are opposite a gas station.

Eish nna, crime has been very far from me.

Everytime someone breaks into your house you must know that it is someone who has been inside. SO be carefull who you let inside your house. Maids and security gaurds are the especially the ones that have the inside scoop of your routines.

Guys, speaking of GML's plan, my colleague who was seriously gatvol of his boss'es ill treatment once arranged for her car to be stolen and delieverd at her house when we were at soweto doing some charity work, it was so funny after few days. Imagine reporting the car stolen and only to discover the car tracked and found at your house with nothing stolen.....

@BA.

how would the cops know. Our Police are useless.

Sorry for any1 who is a cop but we all know that things drag on and eventually people forget about the incidences.

I would do it in such a way that i get them to start thinking they are paranoid.
I have a brother in Prison who can organise things from inside. I would do it. And I have a brother who can be very violent if he wants to. He is mad..... I would do it

GML.........shooo, this is not good advise, what if the poor guy is innocent and the real criminals are caught when this guy is dead or something? let the police handle the matter.

And what happened to innocent till proven guilty. Crime happens everywhere and we are all targets, there is no need to point fingures. BA was robbed at Taxi-station, that does not mean, she had to point at anyone.

@BigM

If it really wasnt him he would say so after I had beaten him up. When I say to him he must return the furniture he would say I dont know anything about it. Then I would leave him. But I would still beat the *bleep!* out of him because he needs to monitor every car that enters the premises.

crime in midrand is out of hand: my co-worker was driving back home with his wife following him in her car. when they got home, countryview and had to wait for the gate to open they were shocked when suddenly they were both held at gun point. both their guys were hi-jacked at the same time, at the gate

Potsotso I'm sorry about your loss dear but I think the Zimbabwean security in your complex knows *bleep!*...

Sorry if I'm gonna have a negative what what but I'm gonna say this, these Zimbabwean securities are involved in these house breakings happening around the burbs of Jozi, similar story happened to someone in Lonehill, my cousin has opted to move to Haartes cos they broke in her house in Bryanston 3times, guess who works in the boom gates in these complexes? U guess right its our brothers, Mugabe's sons... (I'm off to dig a hole for my self now cos I know I'm gonna get killed in this place)

@ bigMama, the security guard is not innocent... he opened the gate for them and he did not even take the resgistration number... its a pity there is nothing i can do about it since the cops did not even bother to question him and there was an eye witness. anyway the security company was fired. thanks God i am insured.

thats the only way to go... i mean this people came with a big bakkie and it was loaded, so he could have checked it, and my neigbour saw him when he was opening the gate. There was no other car coming in or going out, just that one.... yahhhhh nehhhhhh

GML
21 Jul 2009 10:35

just T you should have beatent eh *bleep!* out of him before he was fired. Nxa.

When we moved to our complex where a lot of white people there who gradually moved out. Since then (I'm sorry to say this but....) a lot of people from Africa have moved in. Yoh, Our washing started disappearing from our washing lines, we woke up to find our car windows broken.

Jerr. Now a lot of people are owing on levies. And we have to keep paying special levies because of them. haai no.

The security gaurd company was changed and things have been better, We heard that one of the houses has 10 people living in it. A 3 bedroom unit takes 5. Theses people have used curtains to separate the living room into 3 other beds.

It's bad people

i must say most house breaking are inside jobs.... by the security or  the cleaners..... of that complax..

the best thing to do this days is always have someone you trust at the house when you not there or always leave the TV on. there is nothing we can do at this point in time

as for assistance from the police....ah.ah..ah forget it

just T
21 Jul 2009 11:15

TKSM i took a day off and went to the police station to chart to the investigating officer... trust me that was just a waste of my time. he kept on saying "re tlo ba tswara" while sipping coffee.  And he told me straight away that security company protects their employees so I won't win even if i take them to court. He said they will come up with a story that suites them... Our justice system is hopeless, i called him several times and he did nothing about the case... What scares me is i have an enermy out there and i am not aware who it is. It is clear, the person who organised this knows me very well and has been in the house before

21 Jul 2009 11:30

FUNNY how a colleague of mine has been telling me about how much Midrand has becoming a hotspot for housebreakers anc crime in general lately.

Security guards are assisting these people i tell you, When you go home for the holidays security guards know and that is mostly when we get house breakings.
When you go to work, they know and these things are planned.
How the hell didnt he sign people in & out if that is the normal procedure???

Why am i feeling like this article is about Xhenophobia ... Why is it that peopl do not want to accept  responsibility ...
All of a sudned its now Zimbos that are doing all these crimes Please ......people l;ets not generilse this site is for people from all over Africa and to insult them
Why would someone cross the border in a crocodile infested to come and commit crime..at the risk of being caught and deported or sent to Jail.. Most of these Zimbabwean people come to make an honest living ..look at the crime rate in that country when things were still okay???
Blame the Government for not doing anything to Curb Robbery even the Police for turning a blind eye and saying Its Normal to have a house break in Pleeease why  not take action against crime than make blames .

just T
21 Jul 2009 11:52

@jazzyree no one is generalizing here. In my case, most of the time i was mugged by zimbabwean and the security guard who was on duty when thieves got into the complex is zimbabwean... of course not all of zimbabweans are bad just like south africans.

Katlegom
21 Jul 2009 11:52

@Potsotso, sorry. i can just imagine how long it took you to fill your house, now everything is gone.

crime in SA is so bad guys, i dont know if it will ever end.

late last year on a friday afternoon i found two guys in my car at my workplace parking.  when i confronted them they had a nerve to tell me they thought it was a white guy's car, they told me in my face that they were trying to steal it.
they got into their car and drove off.

i called the rosebank police station down the road so that they can come take a statement but those idiots gave me another number to call, hei banna?!
i called them just after 16:00 but when i left the scene at 18:30 the police were nowhere to be seen, still!

KewlGaL
21 Jul 2009 11:55

Ooh well, its funny how much we South Africans dont want to hear the truth....

Fact of the matter is this, The reason there were xenophobic attacks in SA was because our government rufuses to see that this country is overcrowded with illegal immigrants whom (another fact) actualy do take jobs that pay them silly money which South Africans refuses to take.. Its a fact but when you say it you are called a xenophobic person..

Fact no. what what- if we can go to police stations and ask for stats about house breakings, every1 can see its Zimbo's who are the perpetraiters. Now why must we go & dig holes for ourself when we state facts about what's trully happenin? cos we are afraid of being labelled xenophobic..

BigMama
21 Jul 2009 12:13

@KG..........This article is not about Zimbabweans or Xenophobia. You are welcome to write another article about that. All l can say is that there is no place like home, believe you me, if it wasn't for the situation back in Mugabe land they will be committing crime in their on land.

Just get over it and buy the things they stole Potsotso, not easy but do-able...

They broke into my place towards the end of May, I even relocated after that because I did not feel safe at all, considering the fact that they had tried before. They stole some of my furniture, even an iron and laundry basket! The only reason they probably did not take the fridge or bed was because they were too much work.

Still haven't replaced most of the furniture because I am still saving up... But I bought a microwave! The one they stole was white, so I just bought a silver one (The colour now matches with my fridge, LOL) and it has a mirror on the door, so I can sommer kill that minute while waiting for whatever it is I've put in, by looking at my beautiful face :-) Would I have a bought a microwave like that if they didn't  steal the old one? Hell to the no! Would have waited for it to break first or something!

So look at it that way. After the break-in, someone said to me, the reason why they stole it was because God wanted me to have better ones, naive, but after crying for almost a week, *I still cry for my CD collection and DVD system (the morons even took the speakers)*,  but Ill get one, a better one, when I've saved enough money. For now, I just listen to the radio on my phone.

Crime happens everyday...
