Coming Up: CNN African Journalist Of The Year 2009

The CNN 2009 African Journalist of the Year Awards swung into action this week - things heat up for the showdown as from today (Friday, 17 July) and run through until Sunday (19 July).

The Awards are happening in Durban and the surrounding action features various talks and seminars by industry professionals.

The Award Ceremony and Gala evening take place on Saturday (18 July) at The International Convention Centre, where the winner will be announced.

The ceremony is being hosted by Isha Sesay, presenter of CNN's weekly programme Inside Africa and South African eNews Channel presenter Macfarlane Molele.

The ceremony will be broadcast on Inside Africa on CNN on Saturday, 25 July 2009 at 18h30 (for South African audiences). Please see schedules for broadcast times across Africa and repeats.

On Wednesday, 29 July 2009 it will be broadcast on M-Net at 23h05.

It will also be broadcast on e.tv on Sunday, 9 August at 15h00 and and on the eNews Channel (DStv channel 403) on Thursday, 13 August 2009 at 11h30.

Al Jazeera has joined the band wagon as well, yestterday they had some story about albinos being murdered in Rwanda and the other time they were talking about famine not sure if it was in Uganda or Kenya.  They were showing old women like really old, my grndma's age fighting for food...it was such a sad sight.
