Idols mix up

So here I was listening to the news on Radio 2000 the next I hear is Idols has hit a snag! Apparently MNET is investigating the final counting process of Sunday's Idols where Cape Town's Sasha Lee Davids was declared a winner over Jason Hartman.

A statement on the pay-channel’s website admits there were some technical glitches with the counting process on the final night of the competition.

If Jason is the winner Sasha will have to return the gifts! Hee bathong MNET what an embarassement! I can't believe that they will make such a mistake! Just imagine Sasha...what she's going through right now! I mean really, how does a big company like this make such a mistake! It reminds of the SAMAs where DJ Cleo's number was, at last minute, swopped with that one of DJ Sdunkero who won Best something award!  Cleo said he was robbed! Haai khona this is so unacceptable! Shame on MNET!

I totally feel for Sasha and Jason! Imagine what the poor went thru and now to find out that he's the winner. And imagine what Sasha is going to go through if she finds out that she wasn't the winner!

Unprecedented Number Of Votes For Final Show Of Idols
2009/05/07 61 comments

On Sunday evening, 03 May, the final show of the fifth season of Idols was broadcast live on M-Net between 17:00 and 19:00, to announce this season’s winner.

The winner is determined by public vote alone based on the number of votes received for each of the two finalists. An unprecedented number of votes were received for the two finalists, Sasha Lee Davids and Jason Hartman.

M-Net’s post-show analysis revealed however, that a significant number of the SMS votes were received after the cut-off time of 18:05 on Sunday evening, due to possible external system latency.

Theo Erasmus, Channel Director: General Entertainment of M-Net SA, says: “The moment we were alerted to possible system problems, we contacted the mobile network operators to request additional data, which could be verified by independent auditors. M-Net hopes to complete this audit in the shortest time possible. It is crucial to M-Net that our viewers can be assured that every vote counts because accuracy is paramount in a show of this nature.”

The investigation will determine whether these SMS votes were sent by members of the public before the final cut-off time of 18:05 on Sunday evening, thus making them legitimate.

The three mobile network operators and M-Net’s service provider, are all co-operating with M-Net to ensure a speedy outcome.

The two finalists, Sasha Lee and Jason, have been made aware of this investigation and will receive all the necessary support they require during this process. They have both been advised that the results may change.

As soon as the investigation is complete, the results will be made known to the public.

WTF??? No they should just let her keep the prize and give Jason the same prizes. It is their fault and there is legal implications here. Sasha-Lee can sue them, so i suggest they just give both of them the same prizes...

I really don't think she has already received ALL of Jason's prizes....she must get the money (if any), vouchers, microphone and not the car & recording contract.

Report from News24.com

M-Net has announced that both Sasha Lee Davids and Jason Hartman are the winners of the Idols season.

The shock announcement was made by M-Net CEO Patricia Scholtemeyer at a press conference on Friday.

"We make this unique announcement in the history of Idols: Both Sasha Lee and Jason are worthy winners of this season's Idols," she said.

"Even though Sasha Lee received 1.1 million and Jason received 1.3 million votes, we felt that the public loves them both."

Jason will receive an equal share of the prizes, including the coveted recording contract.

Oh hell, heaven and holy hallucinations, what is the nation smoking?

Who won Idols?

There will be a recount... "We are giving Jason and Sasha counselling and M-Net has appointed a professional team to keep on eye on them as we await the outcome of the auditing process," says Theo Erasmus, some dude you don't care about.

"We also have psychological counselling on standby should the tension become too much for them."

Well slap me sideways with a leopard skin and call me Mr President, what a load of kak. I'm pretty sure we will not find Jason, who looks about my age, or that Sasha lady, who looks like a clone of the last Idol, sitting on a ledge at M-Net's Randburg studio contemplating ending it all.

Jeez, if you need counselling because of a recount in a competition as absent in quality as Idols SA then you, my friend, are a plank of the highest order and should you be locked away, right now, in a padded cell where you can do no harm to small animals, children and people with a decent ear for music.

None of the souls we revere will make it past the audition stages of American Idol. Not that we don't have the talent in this country, mind you, we just always seem to settle for what is, really, mediocrity at its pitiful best.

But that's another story for someone else to tell who pretends to give a damn but, truly, honestly, deeply knows that none of this will be remembered three years from now when Jason sings his heart out at the opening of some new mall in Brakpan and Sasha makes a guest appearance in whatever abomination M-Net replaces Egoli with.

Frankly I think everyone who voted to promote any of these souls deserve to have their citizenship revoked, their ears boarded up and their vital organs flogged to the highest bidder on e-Bay.

Okay so that's a bit harsh but, really people, is this the apocalypse of our time? Will the earth stop revolving? Are we all going to go out and buy toilet paper, canned food and bottled water en masse? Should we tear the clothes from our bodies and burn it all in a symbolic show of solidarity with these two poor souls that couldn't crack the industry the old fashioned way?

This is not a scandal.

Robert Mugabe getting invited to the inauguration, THAT is a scandal. The price of fillet steak at Joburg butcheries, the state of our roads, the record sales of Bokjol Afrikaans Sokkie CDs, the overall quality of PSL soccer and the fact that nearly every company, organisation or service provider tries its utmost to scam the average citizen out of our hard-earned-money... THOSE are scandals.

This here is the equivalent of a donkey fart on the Richter Scale. If that sounds unpleasant to you I suggest you buy the next Idols CD ? guaranteed to be marginally better.

Jason has always been my favourite.  It was just going to be pure trauma if Sasha had to give back the prices, good decision they made.

BigMama
08 May 2009 14:33

This is Disaster at its best, Jason will never be sure if he really lost that is if the title remains will Sasha. l think the best thing for them to do is to let both of them be winners. They just can´t take back the gifts that they have given to Sasha and give them to Jason, its just not fair.
