Baby drama and a somewhat racist comments

I know a lot has been written about voting and so on, but I thought I should share my experiences with you as a 1st time voter.

It was around 10am when hubby and I decided to go and vote. As we drove to the school we saw a lot of cars parked and thought it's not that bad, tjo it was horrible. I remember saying to hubby "baby we left the townships avoiding such things and we still find them in the suburb"

So we drive past the long queue of people waiting to cast their votes, and decided to just go back home. We then went back to the school few hours after and found that the queue was still long. We waited in the queue for something that felt like eternity.

People with kids as old as 5years were allowed to go in ahead of us. I could understand a 6month old baby because of the weather, but 5 and 6. No ways.

A white man and his wife said I should have brought a pillow with me and pretended to be pregnant, they would have gone in with me. We laughed until another man standing behind the couple said "you were gonna say she is your maid and the husband the garden boy".

We (us and the white couple) just looked at him (obviously not laughing). The couple apologised to us and I told them that they shouldnt have to apologise for other peoples mistakes. The waiting seemed not so bad as a conversation got more interesting with the couple.

Infact the white man decided to leave us in the line and come back couple minutes later with coffee and chocolate.

I was happy. Other people who had been in the queue with us with their kids decided that they would use their kids as excuses to get ahead when it started getting colder.

Otherwise my first voting experience went quite smoothly.

What happened to you? Share your stories about things you did while you waited....

I was voting for the 3rd time, the first 2 times I didn't stand in no queue. This time was different I waited for about 45 minutes...which was spent listening to three girls behind me gossiping...Well people with kids stood in the queue just like us..and I felt bad for the elderly.

"you were gonna say she is your maid and the husband the garden boy".  Mr thought he was being funny...

i've never seen so many white people standing in queus to vote like yesterday, and I told a friend of mine that it might have been stop zuma zille campaign but then i might also be wrong.

all in all it was a nice experience for me, it was exciting and was so glad to see a huge turnout. I was also surprised to see a couple of whites  with cope flags and cope branded cars and I was like i guess lekota's afrikaans speeches won him some support.

i'm happy i voted, and whatever the outcome the political landscape in this country will never be the same, which can only be good for democracy.

can't wait for 2014

The first school that i went to in Fourways in the morning had a very very long queue, so we decided to leave and try another school(i registered in KZN so i was only gonna vote for national), Ferndale high, and the queue then was even worse ... we drove back home and slept for few hours then around 4pm we went to ferndale again but the queue was still there and a friend called and told us that there is no queue at St Stithians College, we then drove there and didnt wait not even a minute. .

When we got to the queue the white couple and us started talking about general stuff and about how if we knew the queue was gonna be long we would have come prepared. So people thought we knew each other.

The coffee thing was not insulting because we talked about it beforehand. The other man was bored and thought he being funny when we and the couple were obviously not bored.
