Its Saturday 07:45 AM, the date is the 9th……I get a “withheld Call” on my cellphone….I’m not worried it’s a Saturday for heaven sake

Caller: May I please speak to Mr. Makuwe*.
Me: {oh sh!t} You mean Ms Makuwe?
Caller: Sorry about that, yes can I speak to her.
Me: It’s her speaking.
Caller: Ms Makuwe my name is Phindile* and I’m phoning you from our Price & Pride offices.
Me: Yes… {Long pause} how can I help?
Caller: Ms Makuwe before we begin I would like to tell you this call is recorded.
Me: Sigh {by now I know it’s not a friendly call}
Caller: Ms Makuwe our record shows that your account is in arrears, when should we expect payment from you?
Me: Arrears-e {in my Black Like Me Accent}
Caller: Yes Ma’am arrears-e {in an ‘I don’t wanna give you service’ black attitude}.
Me: Err how much do I owe you???{As if ga ke tsebe}
Caller: Ms Makuwe your account is in arrears for 2 months therefore you need to pay R1500 to bring it up to date, when should we expect payment from you and how much would you be able to pay?
Me :{I pause before I answer I remember Phindile saying to me the call is recorded, I don’t want to get into trouble with the law}
Err payment will be done to you sometime after the 30th or 31st it depends when is Month End err… a payment of maybe +- R1300 will be paid it will also depend on the financial situation…..I might pay R60 {lol} it’s better than nothing right?

Yes guys lets talk we all been in this kind of situation at least I think...LOL

1. How do we get out of the Rat Race?
2. When is the time to cut that Credit Card with that pair of scissors?
3. When do we say no to that Credit Increase at Truworths?

I once read a book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert and in that book there was one saying that I found so profound the saying is “ If you find that you’ve dug yourself in a hole, stop digging”. {This is so true}

Brothers and Sisters let’s help each other here….

P.S. For those who work at the Banks, clothing stores and furniture store etc you might loose clients after this article don’t blame me “blame it on the a..aa..aalcohol” {singing} ….lol…kidding….. Blame it on the economy recession……

Teehee! i cut my credit card last year. dont want that piece of plastic anymore, its nothing but trouble. Eish Truworths is always on my case too. but im only left with two instalments then I'll live happily there after.

My tip to everyone is to answer this private numbers and and make arrangements with our creditors, they do understand.
Avoiding this these calls increase the troubles

Also can't stop laughing at Price 'n Pride account.

I think you should work out how much you can afford to pay them, call them and say that's how much. They have to take it.

As for when to cut up the credit card, my answer would be now. Also pay them what you can afford till you finish and close the account.

i've been bad with clothing acc's since i started working. at one point (my first job where i was getting about 2.8k monthly) there came pay day and with paying all my clothing acc's and cellphone i was left with 300. TRUE. needless to say i diddn't pay them. have always been in arrears with paying. i'm just so very bad. mara le bona these idiots they keep giving me credit. first acc was foschin (from my tertiary days - and mind you this was the only acc i EVER applied for, the rest were just posted to me without my asking) then came truworths then jet then woolies.

at the moment i'm in arrears with all of these stores and am currently paying htem off. they stay off my back so long as a paymetn comes in. mara next month i am cutting them off. for good this time as i now pay rent and car instalment not to mention creche etc etc etc. my sister says i've finally grown up, at 27 nogal! that is the reason why i don't have ennertainment in my place. that can wait a coupla months cos then i can buy with my OWN money. and i'm tired of answering my work phone and saying Kele's on leave till next month....eish!

big things like your car and house instalments. try to keep your arrears under 3 months at ALL times. once you go beyond that it becomes almost impossible to get back on track. plus the bank can easily repo your car/house once you've reached this stage. if you feel the instalments are too high you can ask the bank (some do this) to extend your contract. this they will only do IF you are up to date. and with 1 and maybe 2 months' arrears some banks can reschedule your arrears over the remainder of your contract period

My tip to everyone is to answer this private numbers and and make arrangements with our creditors, they do understand.
Avoiding this these calls increase the troubles

For clothing account, you should use the 6 months payment plan since there are no interests charged. If you took the 12 month plan then you have no sympathy from me. What is the problem that makes you skip your repayment? If it is a petty problem then you need to see a financial advisor to help you sort out your payments and stick to the advice given.

Blakes & Associates  I just hate them. And I now have this lady from something something attoneys in Cape Town, she calls me and tells me that she will send people to my work to come and arrest me for not paying my credit card.
I told her mam, i was not working alst year and when standard bank approached me with the credit card offer I couldnt refuse.
And pls do ur work properly and stop stressing me, I work for the credit bereu (Lying). So I am blacklisted by standard bank and edgars, they offered me credit cards when I was so broke, and i used them, of cos if i had enough funds my debt was gonna be settled by now. As for edgars they blacklisted me for R320 and the lady who phoned says i still owe, and I told her that I dont owe U I O edgars. I settled the account a long time but she still calls complaining about her commision.

I am going to pay again and withdrew the money to pay for an exam. But I told myself that once I'm done writting I will go straight to the bank tell them to unlink the bloody plastic, then I can cut it.

Woolworths account is also unmanageable...........I'm dancing in the same spot. Last they send me an email asking me if I need my balance reviewed every year. How can they send such letters.

HomeChoice..............I will never ever, ever. I wanted to be like any other woman, with a home choice label in my room. Took six month payment period and paid in 4 mnths, that was May last year, guess what last month I paid R1.58 owed to them, I thought I will never finish paying them, today I got their stattent sayin I now owe R0.00.

Teba Loan...........R2700 still owing for my studies, I wonder if I'm not balacklisted na?

TvLic..........also owing them, last time they send me an SMS while I was with my man and he paid, but they are still sending the sms's, but I realised they think I'm Mr Phakathi.

Currently I am looking for a way to put away all my excess cash, that I will need soon. LM: in case of emergencies are you able to draw from your bond account? how much do they charge you for drawing and having the access bond facility? My money is available to me 24/7. They don't charge me anything for having this facility. The trick is to withdraw additional funds deposited and not what u paid towards ur bond. The access bond is normally available once your bond is over 12/24 months, you just need to ask for it and link it to ur bank account.

I must say it is a good feeling to see interest charged goes down and down every month. since the repayment will go down due to more money being paid, it is better to keep paying what you have been paying all along:)  results: less interest + short loan term

I must say it is a good feeling to see interest charged goes down and down every month. since the repayment will go down due to more money being paid, it is better to keep paying what you have been paying all along:) results: less interest + short loan term

Very true LM, to thing that with a mere R200.00 extra you could save +- 2 years of repayments, makes a whole lot of difference and the money that you'd save then ... i still pay mine at 15.5%, even if rates can go to 10% i wont change mine, instead will put a little extra from my raise.

LM: in case of emergencies are you able to draw from your bond account? how much do they charge you for drawing and having the access bond facility?

BA: one thing that put me off the money market accounts is that they charge you a fee for drawing from the account, even though they pay you good interest. they should at least allow you two free withdrawals a month.

Currently I am looking for a way to put away all my excess cash, that I will need soon. It is just that I have something that i want to buy and have saved up for it, I dont have the time to look for one now, and wanted to put my money away safely and get a smallanyana return, have tried the credit crad option but they also charge me for making payments witha a positive balance, nxa!

How do you cut your credit card?.....................I wish I know, mine is skyrocketting. I pay R1000 every month but the balance is R3000.

Furniture.............I don't owe it. I laybye. I won't tell you where cause you will laugh @ me.

Mystick.............why buying R7000 pots. Those pots are beautifull but does the same thing, man. Cooking food

NB:These people no longer use private numbers, they use cellnumbers and they call you at around 10am, lunch or anytime after 5pm,,

Now I call today to make sure they won’t take my money again this Friday, GUESS WAT!!!!!!!!!!! This lady tells me it takes 10 days to cancel a debit order, meaning they gonna take my R1500 and I must call them on Saturday morning wit my airtime and ask them to cancel it and reverse it, then they’ll refund me next week. Kanti if their system can show them when I skip a payment why can’t it show them ukuthi this person has finished their loan so don’t deduct again!!!!!!!!!!! What if I hadn’t called them, where does my money go kanti!!!!!!! NXA!!!!!!!!!!!! They better give it back to me in full, otherwise I’ll close my 10 years savings account with them, abandazi kahle!!!!!!!

I'm so delighted to announce that come month end I'll be sekoloto free (Except from my car) Here are my simple personal rules i've come up with:
1. If u can get it cheap else where, why buy the expenive one ( I simply buy my Woollies, truworths, foschini, Edargs clothes ko Picadilly. For most of my designer wear, i simply buy ko IFS twice a year, UFO and there is a store downtown Jozi which sells, boGuess, Nine west and Eldos.). Me, I can be very expensive for less.

2.
Always make a payment, no matter how little
3. Avoid shopping malls ( People enjoy 2 be seen at malls, it cost a fortune just to go and eat out. Lately I'm sticking to my plan of shopping only once a month, if we run out of something during the month, we wait until month end)
4. If theres extra cash left before payday, make extra payment on your accounts.
5. Rather save or dlala stokvel and avoid buying furnisher ka skoloto.

. Avoid shopping malls ( People enjoy 2 be seen at malls, it cost a fortune just to go and eat out. Lately I'm sticking to my plan of shopping only once a month, if we run out of something during the month, we wait until month end)
