Jacob's Cross
Premiere date: Thursday, 2 April 2009 at 21h30

Jacob's Cross is a South African drama series about powerful oil magnates battling for Africa's rich off-shore oil resources.

Set in both South Africa and Namibia, the story centres around businessman Jacob Makhubu and his quest to build the next great South African empire.

The people in Jacob's world are all driven by a shared history of colonisation and desire to tap into the wealth of Africa while being divided by feuds over who the rightful owners of the resources are, how they should be exploited and who should benefit.

The story begins when Jacob, who's living a prosperous and happy life in South Africa, gets offered a deal, with immeasurable backing from a large Nigerian firm.

Determined to realise his dream of accessing a new energy source, the deal offers him the perfect opportunity of making it happen.

He's adamantly warned by his mother to stay away from the Nigerian dynasty and its business but refuses to take her advice and soon finds himself in a negotiation that will change his life forever.

Invasion
Premiere date: Saturday, 4 April 2009 at 18h30

For centuries man has searched the skies for signs of intelligent life forms. What if those life forms were already here? And what if some of the natural disasters we've been experiencing of late were merely smokescreens to mask something far more ominous?

For dedicated park ranger Russell Varon, a divorced father of two who is expecting a third child with his new wife, local television reporter Larkin Groves, the hurricane proves to be merely the beginning of a long journey into the unknown.

Always skeptical about the paranoid conspiracy theories of his wayward brother-in-law, Dave, Russell may have to revise his thinking when a number of bizarre occurrences start taking place in his community.

Though Russell's young daughter, Rose, claims to have seen hundreds of lights floating towards the water during the storm, Russell initially dismisses her claim - until he begins to suspect that something is very wrong with his ex-wife, Dr. Mariel Underlay.

The morning after the storm, Mariel is found naked in the water - with no memory of what transpired the night before.

As the tiny town of Homestead, Florida struggles to rebuild itself, Sheriff Tom Underlay - who is married to Russell's ex-wife - suspiciously orders the entire area quarantined.

Russell starts to investigate the strange goings-on and unknowingly begins a fight for the survival of his family, his community, and what might ultimately be the whole human race.

Stokvel 6
Premiere date: Sunday, 5 April 2009 at 19h00

Stokvel returns for a new 26-episode season. New to the line-up of actors: Hamilton Dhlamini, who takes over from James Ngcobo as Mojo Khumalo.

Mojo, along with his beautiful wife, Lerata (Manaka Ranaka), is the lynchpin for the two stokvels whose adventures are depicted through the series. Mojo is the chairman of the men’s stokvel, Majakathata, and Lerata is the treasurer of the women’s society, Sweet Harmony.

Highlights of the season include the Khumalos coming to grips with the most recent additions to their family, the return of Biza’s trouble-making uncles who persuade him to fake his own kidnapping, Hazel wondering whether her tavern is haunted, Mojo’s vision of the stokvels in the future, Ayanda meeting a man who wants to turn her into his idealized version of the perfect woman, Majakathata going on an ill-advised treasure hunt and Budgets’ growing romance with the woman of his dreams.

Erfsondes 2
Premiere date: Tuesday, 14 April 2009 at 19h30

Erfsondes returns for it's second season and begins with Kate (Jana Strydom) finding herself in the world of her dreams: she’s married to Chris (Emmanuel Castis), one of the wealthiest men in Johannesburg; and is the recent mother of a set of twins.

But during the course of season, Kate will learn that having a family is not always the fairytale she dreamed of while growing up in an orphanage.

The ghosts of the past will again come to haunt as her and her family face the sins of their fathers. It is how they deal with this in the present that will determine their future.

The prevailing theme of the show is Motherhood. Having grown up in an orphanage Kate is unclear about what motherhood entails, constantly grappling with the idea and consequences of her actions.

In addition to the regular cast, season 2 sees the rise of further antagonists. There’s Amoré Fouché (Erika Wessels), Captain Pote Du Toit (Ian Roberts), Constable Thandeka Moloi (Thalyta Ndima) and Sam Spencer (Catriona Andrew).  Gay couple Ricci (Mortimer Williams) and Wong (Terence Bridget) return to run the Events For Africa business.

While the show has an overall story arc, each episode has a self-contained story.

An Afrikaans Primary school teacher from the "platteland", she decides she's not going to give up and sets out to try to keep her head above water by dodging her landlord and wannabe gangster, Mikey (Dirk Stoltz), who lives upstairs with his grandmother.

He wants to turn the pawn shop into a night club. In order to stay afloat, Frida, with the help of Persistence (Tumi Morake) - the world's most streetsmart tea lady - has to use her language skills to teach a motley crew of after-hours students Zulu.
