I Don't Want To Hear This

Written by Segololo from the blog on 21 Feb 2009

I hear what they say; I listen to their mumbles, promises, prepared speeches and jibberish. I am not convinced all of them know what they are doing or what WE want.

The silly season is back – election madness is in full swing and the fat cats are on our doorsteps, tvs and anywhere a twitching bug that can vote is. Suddenly we all matter to the politicians AGAIN. This may be the only time we actually matter to them, at any other point we are a nuisance, we are treated as such, and feel it every time we complain and don’t get listened to.

Why should I vote for you? What are you going to do for me to make sure that my vote empowers the South African people? WHO should I vote for? Are you talking to me? Are you addressing my needs and concerns? What change will you bring, If any at all?

I still do NOT know where my vote is going. SO, I have to listen to all of them to make sure I make an X to someone whose reasons for being on the ballot makes sense. *sigh* A hard job. They all promise and promise insane things... SO I have a list of things that I DO NOT want to hear...

I believe strongly in live and let live. Some things and people’s lives you have to just let be – SO any party that speaks negatively or chooses the moral ground that people’s children that have disclosed their sexual preferences and want to live happily are to be hampered in this dream is not getting my vote. Any gay or lesbian rights hater is not gonna be getting my vote.

There are already bigger, harder and dangerous issues in our society, you obsessing about who and what the gay community is shagging is not gonna help me. SO I do not want to hear any gay bashing.

I am sick of seeing South African voter’s living in shacks in squatter camps that just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger; whilst the skinny politician all of a sudden gains over 150kg in a 7 month period. I don’t want to hear any party promising free houses to get the emotionally and desperate to vote for them.

I am forever worried that children opt to become parents without thinking about the consequences and the challenges this will have on their lives. I worry that the eagerness to get R150 in your account clouds the judgement and the thinking that life could hold better things for you if you study. What happens when you get laid and catch the flu called HIV because you were just thinking about a “grant”? What then? SO I don’t want to hear the words “grant” coming out of a politician’s mouth or my vote is going elsewhere.

I know that people died for me to be able to vote. I know that everybody rallied for political prisoners to be freed and the exiled to return. With all the international support and people’s outrage we are now able to walk anywhere and cast a ballot. However, I have not forgotten that I have had two chances prior to this one to put an x for a party I believed in and they let me down. SO, keep talking politicians.. I listen!

yes we voting MJJ, bandla Mr Lekota is proving what critiques said about him that he is power hungry.i hear he is "bitter" about Mr Dandala being voted COPe's presidential candidate..the plot thickens

Am not sure about the different party's take on gay/lesbianism but i know that most if not all of them promise free RDP houses and child support grants..
you going to have difficulty in choosing which 1 to vote, infact i dont think there is a party that qualifies to be voted by you Sego, judging by your article.

Me like Pizniz i dont know what party to vote for, but i know what  party(ies) NOT to vote for.

Mvume Dandala being nominated as the parties presidential candidate has definetely casued a rift within Cope....i was never really sold on Cope, especially with Terror as the leader...

according to MEDIA REPORTS (SUNDAY TRIBUNE) Lekota is so angry about the turn of events, he is apperantly mobilising his own support within the party....further more, the report states that Lekota was  "elbowed out"  because of ethnicity...

if you cant link in, here's the story.....

FACTIONAL tensions threaten the unity of Congress of the People (Cope) as supporters of its leader Mosiuoa Lekota vow to fight what they describe as "ethnic tendencies" after the nomination of former Methodist Church of Southern Africa Bishop Mvume Dandala as the party's presidential candidate.

Dandala, who is expected to be publicly paraded tomorrow and will be the country's president if Cope wins the general election in April, has apparently warned that he was not prepared to lead if his presence caused a rift within the party. He could not be reached for comment as the party was shielding him from the press.

Lekota, who also could not be reached yesterday, is said to be so angry about the turn of events he is mobilising support.

Yesterday, a close Lekota ally and a senior member of the party's national committee, said they would raise the issue of why Lekota "was elbowed out" at a meeting tomorrow to nominate premier candidates.

"This is another Polokwane (ANC national conference) where factionalism ruled. It is an ethnic question, no doubt about it. There are ethnic tendencies showing now. Lekota is president; why do we need someone else? Are we saying we don't have confidence in him? We will raise this on Monday when we discuss premiers," he said, but asked not to be named "because these are internal matters".

He claims that Dandala was supported by Gauteng and Eastern Cape, charging that the latter province "just wants Xhosas to dominate and influence South Africa's body politic".

Former deputy defence minister Mluleki George is accused of driving the ethnic campaign by mobilising his Eastern Cape constituency behind Dandala. George denied the charge.

Shilowa, who addressed a rally in Soweto yesterday, said, "(Dandala's nomination) is a view of the organisation. It has my full support. I will work to ensure that our members understand."

But others in the national committee doubted whether Dandala would deliver votes for the party because he lacked popular appeal.

22 Feb 2009 14:56

the funny thing is that Sundaytimes, City Press and i think Sunday World(haven't read it yet) also have the same story...but sunday times says Chilowa chose to support Mfundisi than Lekota...so does that mean Shilowa is fighting with Terror????

ANyway it really doesn't matter whether they are fighting or not - the price of bread won;t go down.......

so im not a fan of Malema nor do i despise him, but i think there's an ouch of truth when he says that DA chairman, Joe Seremane is "a puppet smiling on election posters for the madam"
the reason why i partially agree with this statement is because when Daddy Motlanthe was about to be elected as S.A stand in pesident, the D.A opposed that decision, nominated Seremane and  the M.P had to vote for either him or Daddy M. however when the results were tallied, the number of votes that Seremane got did not even amount to the number of D.A officials who are M.P...which proved that his own party had no faith in him. they were jsut using him as a delay tactic....

No para I think the candidates were well prepared on fact, but the debate 2nite was a shame- the reps were shaken up by the earlier AZAPO event- the COPE lady yena lost it completely- and was very scared- she kept looking at the nearest exit- the thing is she remembers the riots of this nature- nurses once threw tomatoes @ her when she was the Health Mininster of Transkei

couldn't agree with you more Sego. as soon as we start complaining they'll call us counter-revolutionary

Cande and Mjj - stop talking about Idols on this blog, there's a blog for it nc nc nc.

Cope appointing Bishop Dandala:
my take: - good move. Bishop is not from the ANC so people cannot accuse him of being disgruntled. He's new to politics, and I also like the fact that he's church person, churches worldwide have always been known for helping the poor without wanting anything in return unlike politicians.

people will always use this tribal nonsense to work on people's emotions, they did it with Mbeki and Zuma and it worked.

people who support individuals not party principles will have a problem with Dandala's appointment.

Gareth was saying on Idols that the young people of this country are so not concerned with what is happening politically , we wait for things to change when we've got the power to change things.

Sego - you have a child and for the sake of your child's future go and vote sisi, I know they don't make sense right now but there has to be at least one party that makes a little bit of sense, same applies to you Nonny : go vote
