If you are an R'nB fan or simply watched Sister Act 2, starring Whoopi & Lauryn Hill then you will know Hi-Five but most importantly you will know Tony Thompson because he was the voice behind Hi-Five.

Or you might remember......"I Can't Wait Another Minute"

Well, today I found out that Tony Thompson died and to say I was shocked would be an understatement. I don't understand it....
I felt a lump in my throat and tears started streaming down like it was someone I knew personally....
I can't believe that he died almost 2 years ago (1st June 2007 aged 31) and I'm only finding out now!!

For those who knew him...apparently he died from an overdose, inhaling toxic levels of Freon, a hydrocarbon commonly used in air conditioners and refrigerators. Reports say his body was found by security officer outside an apartment complex in his hometown, Texas.

I know this might be weird but I'm really shocked by this...what is strange is that in December, a friend of mine was going through my CD's and on coming across Tony's CD, they asked me "Who the hell is Tony Thompson?" I insisted on playing the CD coz of how "great" Tony was.....

This movie boasts one of the best soundtracks ever made!

My favourite song ever, ever, ever, ever is on the soundtrack....."Never Shoulda Let You Go"

how I remember him

.....and now to find out that he's long dead and I didn't even know about it? Sjoe!

....and the favourite song on his solo album..."I Wanna Love Like That"...

I'm one and a half years late but may his soul rest in peace...he was a talented musician!

His MYSPACE page is still going strong with fans and his family leaving messages for him to tell him what's going on and how much they miss him......ja neh!

and RIP purity, she left a little boy and a fiance behind! how tragic.

@ Ngwanab - Meningitis, its some form of illness where you suffer from severe headches blah blah blah.
I had a neighbour she died from it at only 15/16 yrs, she just complained about a headache, went to the doctor then was referred to a hospital later passed away. Doctors said it was meningitis.

No funny things pls people! People still die of natural causes / illnesses.

Brown Sugar babe, you must be one of the only other peeps I know that has a TT disc, that boy was a great loss, but I think the accident that left one of the original members of Hi-Five disabled and caused the group to break up coupled with the seriously wack album they made when he made the new Hi-Five in 2006/7 just made him give up.
Word is that producers and record companies were not giving him the time of day either.
I will always miss him and i am glad I have the entire Hi-Five collection including TT.

Ijo! Lelo , you brought memories and a half with Hi FIve , "Never should have let you go". I will b lying to you if I said I knew who Tony Thompson was. But that song's chorus and only thatchorus made me sing it that first year when sister act2 came out back in the nineties like I was a super duper musician. Nevertheless my family was not impressed by that every morning. RIP TT, 1 and a half years later.
