I hate Leon Schuster movies

This is my first attempt at writing an article, so please be kind bloggers.

SABC 3 is staging the Leon Schuster movie festival. From watching 2 or 3 of these movies, i have decided that I'm anti-Leon Schuster. Everything is staged to make black people look stupid and bad and to ignore that, even though he's supposedly a comedian that he has some very very disturbing signs of being a raging racist.

All the pranks directed at blacks are degrading and embarrassing. The pranks pulled on whites are genuinely very fun and u can laugh about them afterwards.

Even the piracy advert on TV with him using an african accent implies that black people are the thieves and pirates, it is not at all directed to any other race.

To all my black brothers and sisters, the next time u watch a Leon Schuster anything please have this blog in mind so that u will see what I am on about because I cannot explain it in words.

Congrats on your 1st article Labisto.

I feel you on Leon Schuster movies...i must say i have never watched any of them. I hate the story lines, or maybe its because i am not the target market.

To be honest, all Leon Schuster movies irritate shhht out of me! His african accent just make me wants to kill him. Its not funny...quite frankly an insult to black ppl. Mr Bones 2 was his worst performance ever!

And I fully agree with what's been said about Leon Schuster I find him and his jokes obnoxious. I tried to watch Mama Jack some time back and I couldn't finish it...

Great article, I havent really looked at it that way, but I a am a huge fan of Schuster, I support anything local, ur article is an eye opener, i will have to look hard the next time, i watch any of his movies, thanks for this.

GML i think the people have a reason to complain.Schuster flicks espicially the recent ones Mama Jack, Mr Bones ,Mr Bones 2 fall into the same cliched representations that are resent in flicks like the Gods Are crazy that Jamie Uys used to make.
the representation of blackness is always that of either ignorant, with a terrible accent or blackneess as seen as the exotic. one could write a book on how shusters films and racist "coon" paintings (of black people with big red lips and dark as cool) have in common both in ideology and representation.
but most of our people flood the cinemas and enjoy his dribble thats the perogative.different strokes for differnt folks

nice one Labisto. but i dont fully agree with you. yes some of his movies are a total waste, like mama Jack (even my six year old brother didnt enjoy it) and both Mr bones.....BUT i really enjoyed watching Oh Schuks, i'm gatvol! i even bought the dvd and i still crack up evrytime i watch it.
what did you think of there's a Zulu on my stoep?

what i dont like about Mr Schuks is how hes exploiting that young/old man Alfreid. (dont know his real name but i'm sure y'll know who i'm taking about. his sidekick)

i read his interview two years ago, and i was shocked to find out that the guy still lives in an RDP house (not that there's anything wrong with that, but the guy acted in one of S.A biggest grossing movies)

I like the movies but I feel he needs to do something very funny that takes the mickey out of being so racially divided

Something that will not plaster the typical racial stereotypes

I love his earlier work where he was dressed as a white tannie at a Bles Bridges concert fighting for the last rose- now that was hilarious!

Thank you Labisto,Dimags u know how i feel about Leon Shusta movies.I dont find him funny at all.that Zulu gibberish he stages to fool international audiences makes me wanna vomit.the man cant even speak one proper sentence yesiZULU.i wont even waste my money on his crap work that humiliates blacks rha!

Hayini bantu, it is not so totaly bad 4 comrade Leon-
In terms of the real humor, Zulu on my stoep was very nice [story, acting & jokes.....].. i still enjoy it even now.... the panic mechanic also had great pockets of genuine fun.....! The rest of the moves r truly not funny & yes they potray Blacks in some.......I am afraid I must join the majority; as an ext politian, I CONDEMN THEM IN THE STRONGEST WORDS POSSIBLE

Most of his movies are average, maar i still enjoy pockets of the panic mechanic.....ok, now that i am older .....inability tto spell "pafment"...aint as hilarious.....

Recycle jokes he does.....the irritating laugh of that gentleman.....it sort of reminds me Naija movies and Lawd knows i hate them....

People, people, people, will y'all calm down?!! I'm black and I dont find the movies insulting, the beauty of comedy is being able to laugh at yourselves, how many stand-up comedians have poked fun at blacks, making them out to be thieves, stupid and all that jazz but we laugh, dont we. I think if you dont have a funny bone and the ability to laugh at yourself you shouldnt bother with comedy.

Comedians draw their acts from real life situations, life and society create the stereotypes, not comedians, they just highlight them. If you wanna get mad, get mad at yourselves(as society) coz we like to judge, ourselves, other people...and we put ourselves in these boxes and yet when people shine a light on what we do everyday, we wanna get mad and blame them. Really now people, think about it.

You could also flip the coin and say Schuster shows white people as racist, have y'all seen how they react to Schuster as a "black man" (nad Im talking candid camera here) he also pokes fun at his own kind. There aint nothing to it guys, its just jokes, laugh and then brush them off.

I believe that when you watch comedy, leaveyou troubles at the door and come in with an empty brain, he means to entertain not create a current affairs debate.

when jonathan zapiro cartooned jz he was referred to as the hater of blacks, and immediately i knew its people who are so fanatic that they foget to apprciate humor/sattire, and never visited zapiros website and seee how he has cartooned thabo mbeki, george bush, pik/pw botha, and a lot of jewish / arabic / chinese practices including their leaders.
if you watch all of leon schuster s movies, he makes fun of evrybody

final answa stop looking at things from race point of view uzodada, which i suspect you already do
