Isidee: Loss

While chatting to my TVSA buds on what is going on in TVland - I discovered over half of them have moved from Horizon Deep to Rhythm City. So I watched the Isidee omnibus(10/01/2008) to check.

Len is back, with a huge ego and has taken over Natasha' talk show. Natasha is crying all the time and has gone down under (Australia) to visit her annoying daughter Nikki. Letti is still hovering over the Matabanes as the final dealings with her clothes needs to be sorted. Thandi is walking on thin ice; asking and almost pushing Parson’s to divorce Nandipha in absentia. Zeb is a changed man, I think. His new listening and understanding self is very foreign to me. Frank is an arsehole - but I seem to like it. He has even started to look human to me - not robotic as he has forever seemed to me.

zebz
Zeb is pushing Thandi into the family - everywhere! Onto Parsons who seems to be pulling back since her request for the divorce proceedings to start and even onto Mama Agnes who is just trying to get by. What is the motive? To replace Letti or to push for those Matabane grandchildren he so desperately wants.

Stells
Foot Gals club - Maggie and co are starting a girlie club with self-declared tomboy Priya as a member. Stella has a foot phobia and the first club gathering is spa treatments with pedi's (pedicures) as the order of the day. So the whole week they have been trying to convince Stella that getting spa treatments is okay. I would pay with my fave book to get a full spa treatment right now! hai!

mags

Everyone is working on their resolutions - Vusi is mending his relationship with the Matabanes and going to gym with Parsons. So we hope they lose some weight and gain muscle for our ogling eyes. Maggie is struggling with her no gossiping resolution. Not quite that easy, Mags.

Somehow, it wasn't captivating to watch. There are some visible changes like less but more Neo - more scenes with the child actor and less camera shots of him. Less Matabane traditions.

I have a few things the producers can lose and get some more viewers while at it – ~ Lose Neo altogether unless the biological father is coming to claim him back,
~ Bring Cherel back even if for 6 episodes,
~ Get Pamela Nomvete or Tina Jaxa a super character and bring her on board,
~ Explore the Siyanda baby storyline further,
~ Kill Nandipha from stress-related complications wherever she is
~ Get Rajesh a superwoman to bear him kids and while at that bring his fly brothers back.

I guess I'll stick around the dying mine town just for loyalty to Mama Aggie but am really curious about what the CITY is doing to call the peeps. Can someone blog it?

City managed to lure Isidee's producers and when she jumped ship, creativity and ratings went with. Krijay Govender is on City now.

Ditto on the changes, the show is just getting crappy.

-More interesting would be Ma Agnes having issues of faith.
-Siyanda coming back and how the deep would receive her.
-Barker coming back and being broke as a church mouse.

and Len getting a new jacket, that thing looks dirty.

Simmone: None of Isidingo Producers have joined Rythm City. Krijay Govender was a director in isidingo and as a freelancher, she can direct any show that will pay her well.

Yes, i think Greig Cotzee - Isidingo's headwriter has fucked up the show. Pumla Hopa - the producer, well - another story all together. Isidingo - like many other long running series depend on a good headwriter to survive and remain exciting...This show started suffering a slow brewing amnesia when their best headwriter, Mitzi Booysens left the show - she took Cherel with her.

Niel McCarthy, RC headwriter was one of the writers who started with Isidingo many years ago. He knows the art of story telling and is gud at writing convoluted plots with a small cast, small budget and E-tv's crap. I salute him.

The thing about soapies is that, its all about emotion and not plot. For sum reason, Creig has turned Isidingo into a show that is more plot driven than emotional driven. Women, primary soapie viewers will always follow emotional stories and that is what Rythm City is giving, emotional stories.

Mokgotsi you are so spot on about the right target market i.e women following emotional stories hence women being big on soapies! So if that is your target and you take out emotions on your story line, then you are killing your soapie.NNA PERSONALLY DON'T FEEL ISIDINGO NO MORE!!!!!!

I would ahve like to see Nandipah,Thandi and Parsons triangle growing into a rectangle.Lettie having to choose betwwen her parents nad her husband, that coloured news editor( i forgott his namehaving it tough between his girllfirend and his job.But then they are now having it easy, everybody is just leaving when the drama starts, like that girlfriend of the news editor(excuse my ignorance on the staory,i lost interest)

LOL mjj!

Spot on Harambe!

I never watched RC when it first aired cause i couldn't get what it's about. They seem to have found their mojo and i'm partially hooked (only cause i don't want soap addictions in my life).

isidingo is just soooooooo boring these days. The Rajesh in jail thing went on for too long, Barker in jail was unbelievable and the entire Matabane drama doesn't TOUCH me.

I have nix idea what they need to do to bring me back as a viewer but i doubt anything would move me away from RC right now.

Hey Sego..

I admire you for finding strength to blog about Isidee - as you know I couldnt bring myself to write about it anymore - Yes Im now a big RHYTHM CITY FAN!!!!

<<Stella has a foot phobia and the first club gathering is spa treatments with pedi's (pedicures) >> Good thing you explained pedi's coz it would've sounded weird, i.e. spa treatment le maPedi! LOL!!

Isidingo has a bunch on angels - everyone is sooo nice no one is fighting, there's no backstabbing, its soo boring. I was at home yesterday and didnt even bother to watch the omnibus - catching up with Grey's was more important :-)

I think the problem with Isidingo is that they make it too real. You'll have the whole story line explored to the max. It's like watching too much real life. For instance Lettie's death. I cried until I didn't want to cry no more. And then waiting the whole week like in real life to have the funeral. That was just exhausting!!! They are too detailed and I think that's why it becomes tedious for so many of us!

cool one

Soapy or drama that focuses on morals issues does not have a lot of viewers. People want love triangles, backstabbing and bitching. isidingo must get on the dirty, a bantu ba thanda a manyala.

Isdee has lost its touch - like all normal soapies do, the whole Natasha and Frank thing is toooooooooo much!!! She is just so boring, constantly nagging and nagging - she needed to get her back up against Len - anyway....we all tend to loose creatively at some point and then get it back again.....thats creativity for yah! I have the faith that it will pick up some day - RC all the way for my right now..........Backstage is back and is boring................

@ Psvty: You guys want real things that affect us in our daily lives and when they do that you say it's too real.

Soapies do go through dry spells but I think Isidee has been going through a lot of thse lately. Like RC lost the plot after Rachels death but they are picking up again. It's nromal but Isidee is taking it  a bit too far. Like on Friday's episode I was bored, seriously bored......

How to revive Isidingo: this are just my thoughts....The headwriter must go, pls bring in somebody who has no desire to *bleep!* up the show and then migrate to Canada.  Gray Hofmeyer must return as the headwriter/ producer. I think shows are always bigger than a character, and Isidingo can still survive without Cherel but if they can get Michell to reconsider her move to that obscure MNET soapie..that will be great. I think some of the characters in Isidingo have reached their sell by date....Barker MUST GO - i know that sum of u guys love him, but what more evil can he still do that he has not yet done? The writers took that character to the extreme of being evil - viewers lost empathy with the character, he did not become  human anymore....that is a no-no, a character must remain human. Barker is just a robot...Robert is a great actor but his journey in Isidingo must cum to an end. There is always a rule in soapies: U neva change the character, ure character remains the same forever ( E.G = Brooke will forever be a whore). Isidingo messed up Rajesh as a character, that man was the moral compass of the show and all that jail stint just killed the character....he must go, viewers fell in love with the moral compass Rajesh and they dont identify with this new one..who is he? The whole Bullers house and its characters must go.....its time for a change. That setting was done to save production cost by having many characters stay under one roof, its not working anymore. I think Isidingo can do with more black characters that are deffrent and new...Siyanda and Q - were just a freak show. And the Dineo story of being Barker's daughter - straight out of DAYS.....I can go on and on...but Isidingo lost the plot when they decided to do male driven stories instead of female driven stories. Women want to watch tears, fueds, betrayal and devorces - they identify with it, not with Jails and investigations and Hotels

@H24 - who is Mitzi?

HARAMBE24
12 Jan 2009 11:02

@ J-GIRL...Mitzi Booysens was Isidingo's most successful headwriter. She is the one who brought us the series's most amazing stories, she left the show to headwrite Bennelanders....
