I Want to Sing Gospel: Cape Town Concert

The protocol requires us thank mjj for the tickets; thank u mjj. And ticket collection was hassle-free, thank you Lady at that desk! The venue was a church with big auditorium (no offerings were requested, thanx nkosi! ). From the start to the end the show was fabulously hot….! The following were the highlights as observed by the bloggers:

Blogger 1 wrote: Eish, I must be falling in love with Lusanda, or his Mom or Lusanda's tendancy to have his Mom by his side!. The Boy from Gugs (as he is popularly known here) was a trend-setter for the evening. His singing was marvellous! We went into tears when he rendered an item-on-stage with his Mom; this was definitely the highlight of, my colleagues! What a treat for the Mother City Concert! I had a brief chat & photo shoot with Mom’ Beja & the Aunts during the break! Ohh, she is such a nice, sweet & humble person! Can Mr Nkosi do the “I want To Sing Gospel With My Mom” (aka IWTSGWMM) show? We now know where these kids got their talent, humbleness, and God-praising background, ………..and we want more!

Mommmmyy
Lusanda's Mom

Then there was Charisma! She was great shame uSisi!; she ministered, preached & prayed well, and she did many songs. Although she communicated well with the Lord (I could feel the Holy Spirit), I was still disappointed at her for talking ‘less’ to the audience, especially that the show was touted as her Live cd recording! It was up to the 4th/ 5th song when Thsepiso came on stage that she started talking to the ‘us’ worshipers. Then she was on fire....! Fellows, look out for the cd; Charisma - Live at His People Christian Centre.

Charsma
Lady Charisma- talking to the heavens

I will not comment any further about Sphu, Kgotso, Mzo, Thsepiso, Shannon, Thabisa, & Belinda- they outdone themselves! It was a feast for Capetonians. Eish mara Kgotso fellows, ….Kgosto, ….Kgotso! He translated all the Tswana/ Sotho songs & he sang them in Xhosa too, just to ensure that message went across. The crowed went wild as they could relate to him. He also preached like there was no tomorrow! Pastor Kgotso Boetie, will you please establish your church so that I can be a member? Rest be assured, we will all be there even if we have to do the butt-angle thing (aka that famous posture….LOL)! Well done Boetie!

Trio with cool shoes
Ntulie trio
Finally from me: Lungisani was very……. “Let’s say very professional”. I was taken by his stage presence; and in particular the way he commanded & had an authority on the stage. His trios, duets, etc were fabulous! I had a very good ‘interesting’ chat with him after the show! We talked about his SA FM interview a day before, and his up-coming CD recording! LOL at the answeres he gave to the questions I asked...!

Lungisani Ntuli on stage
Lungisani- I am singing gospel

The top 30 from Cape Town were also called on stage to do a line or two! I really did not enjoy this part because bebe krasa (their singing was sharp & noisy). I think they left the show before they were taught those voice & micro techniques by Nkubeko & the his Lady Pal (by the way, what was her name?

Lungisani and Sharon
The duet with Shannon

Blogger 2 wrote: My highlights of the evening were Lungsta and Shannon's performance they sang so beautifully and gosh those kids can all sing, another one was off-course Lusanda and Mam' Bheja, the way his mother was so in command of the song was so wonderful.

We would like to properly thank mjj, thanx a million times! You have given us wonderful moments since the beginning of the show! Eish, perhaps we must give you that Christmas gift! We will buy you a parrot! Pliz don't RTS it (return to the sender).

Belz dance
Belinda doing her stuff

Finally we thank the IWTSG top 10 for giving us a fabulous night! They stayed behind for autographs, photographs, hugs and kisses…! That was very nice I must say! They actually talked passionately to each fan! But Belinda had so many relatives/ friend spulling her this side and that side! She literally had less time/ attention for fans! Let’s hope the relatives will buy her CD too..!

You welcome "Author of this article".......It was my pleasure......Hope the other bloggers that also got tickets enjoyed the show....

Question - was Charisma recording her CD/DVD? I'm really lost because when i asked EclipseTV about this they said there was no recording....(Then again i'm not their fav cup of tea these days)...So does this mean Charisma has a recording contract?

Cande why stop? They performed with the same clothes in PTA, kanti what's up with the stylist? I thought when they told me that they don't have money to invite me to cpt, they spent the money buying clothes for this kids? Hay' Khona (in Mara Louw's voice)

Great recap, it would have been nice to attend the concert and maybe i wouldn't have spent my sat evening and sun morning in hospital.....Damn the devil was working overtime this weekend.....

Offline - Can all the people that want tickets for the Durban Show on the 28th please email me their details again (name, surname and number of tickets) to mjj@tvsa.co.za (i lost the emails).

The tour moves to PE this coming friday (19th), so if you want tickets please do the same(send an email).

For the Bloem and CPT shows TVSA bloggers could only get normal tickets, so don't expect VIP tickets.......

We all had a great time- will add more comments 4rm other bloggers during the day!
Question - was Charisma recording her CD/DVD?
I spoke to Lungisani, I asked: so this was Charsima CD recording, does this mean you will be recording your DVD in Durban?
The answer was: vote vote vote- he he he (with his usual laugh...). Then I repeated the question & his answer was: nge-20 nty siya e PE, then ke siphele eDurban nge 28.
Thats the answer I got, it reminded me his answers on SAFM...! So sorry mjj, I am still not sure! I guess it was CD since it is what was advertised!

Here's a lil'review from my side.

♫Vrou van Samaria♫
♫Gee my ‘n bietjie water♫
♫Gee my ‘n bietjie water, ♫
♫ ‘n bietjie water om te drink♫
♫HALLELUJAH!!! ♫

We had so much fun Friday Night… I want to thank TVSA, then thank mjj… and thank Eclipse, Thokozani and Lindelani for realising those ten dreams I saw on that stage that night.
I looked at that group of young people and I felt overwhelmed by great emotion when I recognised the great success this turned out to be. It all started as a little voice in someone’s head… Thank you for listening to the small voice. The bible talks about God opening doors. God does not descend from heaven to come and literally open a door. He uses his people as instruments and all it takes is to listen to him, trust him and believe in him.

The venue was almost packed.
It’s Official… Cape Town = Exceptional Character. Even Kuyozwakala confirmed it that ours was the best concert they’ve had thus far, and they were recording a live DVD… coz, you see, Capetonians are big on live performances. In Cape Town, when we say we support you, we mean, we will actually fill the halls, the tents and the streets on most occasions - Festival are a culture. Why do you think Joyous Celebration comes down here every year? Coz the CT crowd is fabulous, that’s why..

And yha... our Mayor just won The World’s Mayor of the Year Award. I love this city.

Moving on…

A coupla things went wrong for me on Friday. First, I had “regular” tickets (no tag) – I actually contemplated going till just about the last minute (lets say I remembered what’s more important, being a Capetonian n’all) – then I forgot the camera – then we chose the wrong side of the auditorium. The minute the “stars” walked onto the stage, all the black people on our side flocked to the front… I couldn’t see Mzo’s head above the crowd. I was so bitter.

Worst part, I come back after the interval and some moegoe is occupying my seat. Right about then, I temporarily decided to suggest TVSA holds back from giving IWTSG any more free publicity. I mean, if I had the proper tag, if they had recognised us as “the media” that I am… I wouldn’t have be fighting over stupid unreserved seats with some moegoe’s girlfriend. That girl was rude, jong!

But the evening had to go on, I was there to enjoy myself and the fact that I couldn’t actually see the stage wasn’t gon stop me from doing just that. I kept asking myself what the point was of going to a live performance if I was going to be watching the screen. Then there were these Lusanda groupies seated behind me… they were screaming so hard I was starting to hate uLusanda. The highlight of the evening was when his mother joined him on stage to collab – I told you in CT we get a bit too much.
Yessses – the mommy rocked the stage so hard you would’ve sworn she’s part of the group, or the mother to the winner, at least. Siphumelele had to work extra hard when her chance came, coz the standard esibekwe ngoMama was..uhhm… a bit high. Let’s just say the o’lady went a bit extreme. Great collab, though…

Saw a few familiar faces, Marco Ben was in the crowd, and so was The Great Austin Bodlo, himself.

This one guy who was in the Top 30, really irked me. Especially after I decided to stop watching the screen and joined the masses at the foot of the stage.
He was jumping up and down, sweating all over the place, and his crack kept reminding me tha

I didnt realise my reply was cut in half.....

here the rest:

Who cares about what words are used, his ego blows the roof, and I have to say he has a long way to go, if he wants to train as a minister. You see, Minister = Humility. How do you expect to heal people if your ministership is weighed down by extreme self-assurance? He’s just too much.

Note to Tshepiso: bhuti, why are you having conversations with the audience whilst performing? Thing is Zakeyi took off his jacket and the male contestants did the same. Now, Tshepiso explained to this person in the audience, in sign language, that he can’t take his off bcoz the shirt is short-sleeved. We don’t do that in professional performances, nhe?

Mzo wa bantwana is overpowered by all these great performances. Reality is, uboy has a good voice but when his performance value is gauged with Sphumele’s, Lusanda’s mom’s and Thabisa’s with that traditional song of hers… uMzonyana only has his dancing moves to back him up. Now I know why all the people that have been reviewing the concerts haven’t been saying much about his performance – he’s just average, compared to all these entertainers.

Thing is… after Sphumelele has been all over the stage dropping beads off those traditional shoes, after Thabisa has also shaken the house with that ♫Holum, Holum♫ song… after Lungisani has manoeuvred Kgotso’s signature kick, and after Lusanda and his mom have done their family thang… all poor Mzo can do is scream ♫ nikhona? Masijaiveni ngoku ♫, in his Twinkle voice - And that’s not very effective, you see?

But he’ll be in his hometown this week; hopefully Siphumelele and Kgotso will tone-down a bit and let him enjoy his shine.

Charisma is a favourite, for sure. She lit the stage and brought the house on fire. She’s on another element, that girl…I’m definitely getting her cd’s and dvd’s. Now that’s a real minister.
Shannon goes ablaze on stage. She has so much stage presence you’d swear she’s ben doing this for ages. – I keep wondering when exactly she left the competition - her medley on the CD is the best – I listen to it every morning – but I never recognised her voice during the competition – I would’ve voted for her.

The old faces were brought to the stage to greet and kind of give us “a note” each…
That’s when Austin Bodlo gave more than just a note of his signature jumble:
♫Masihambeni… Sihambe♫
♫Siyezulwini..
♫Siyobona… ngamanxeba♫
♫Ezandleni zakhe♫

I dropped to the floor, literally…

I’m not sure how long the other concerts went for, but eyethu was on until just about 1:00am – but you see this is Cape Town. lol.
Heheheh… Zakeyi is a favourite with the ladies… everyone wanted a picture with the short fellow.

BELINDA has a powerful voice and she sings at the top of her lungs. With a voice like that, the gal is gonna go very far. she still needs to work on her stage presence but all in all her voice is amazing.

LUSANDA wow this boy amazed me, his voice is clean its strong its loud its winning material. and when he called his mother to the stage is when the show really kicked off. they sang like they had rehearsed ahh they made a good team. yho i vowed i would go to church on sunday.... any sunday

MZOXOLO can sing. he is very young and he is very young but he can sing. i suggest he goes back to school next year just for the matric. you guys should have seen the way he danced, ebesenza i get dfown and some other presumably PE moves, he can hold his own and is sooo much fun to watch, kodwa he is young and must go to school. gospel will still be waiting for him when he finishes school.

Mzo's perfomance was great, however the 'perfomance time distribution' is always against him! I was concerned about the limited time he ws given in Pretoria, things were not different CPT! I hope that he gets a better deal in PE. I hope Lungstar pulls up & shine in Durbs coz Sphu will even be more dominating coz she does her staff very well....!

THSEPISO now this guy suprised me i absolutely couldnt stand him on the TV show kodwa he is good very good. from the way he handles himself the audience to the way his voice comes out... too impressive... hayike andisathethi ngesitulo, for his fist perfomance he brough along a chair which irritated me to bits esp since i had seen the chair in JC 11 originality will get you very far bhuti. besides the chair i was impressed with all his perfomances

THABISA she had me and my gals xhentsing without much success kodwa we tried shame. hayi usisi ngumxhosa. the only thing that imopressed me abt her solo perfomance was the dancing. but her group perfomances were outstanding. 1 thing though the stylist must get a proper dress for thabisa not the sack

uSIPHUMELELE brought the house down with her zulu moves and the other unclassifiable moves. she is a typical SA gospel singer shame usisi abo sisrebecca should watch out for this one,

LUNGISANI.... mhh where do i start. lungisani like the rest of the contestants can sing. kodwa he has changed he used to prance around the mini stage now that he has a bigger stage a bigger audience he acts all cool and just strides around the stage. i voted for him (3 times) because he was not just a singer but an entertainer too. anywa he sang well but was overshadowed by the others. still love him

SHANON kanti why did sharon leave so early in the competition bo, she can sing and i love her voice. guess i should have voted. she deserves a recording contract

KGOTSO (as recapped by friend not on tvsa) i hate myself for not voting for him. he is a perfect example of a gospel singer. i wanted to be a born again-no drinking-no pant wearing-no judging-christian. the crowd wa screaming for him to come on stage and i loved how he made a sign for them not to scream for him rather for the Lord. it made me think that he is not as arrogant as i previously thot he was. his perfomance was rockas he was singing preaching and jumping and i felt the holy spirit... mghhh there was a part when he said ppl must stop ukuhleba and baqale ukuphila ngomthandazo..... needless to say iye yandihlaba ke le coz at the moment i was busy doing exactly tht.

CHARISMA i strongly blive this gal should have won. she has a massive following in CT and she deserves it. i couldnt understand the afrikaans songs but i was so caught up in her stage presence and her voice.... her voice i cant describe kodwa i was completely blown away by her.

all in all i had a great time and i got to experience first hand the wonders of gospel music and i must say i am buying their CD because for the effort they put in they sure deserve to be successful.
also i would like to thank MJJ for his kind and generous heart because were it not for you i wouldnt have had the chance to see these ppl and to be touched by them. enkosi MJJ hope you eill enjoy the Durban show.

Is there any specific reasons why they chose these church venues! We could not even buy our 'soft drinks' during the break, there was only one vending machine!

....And then, if the show is at the church, isn't compulsory for regular members of the congregation to attend? That place was suppose to sold out, & was to be filled to maximum capacity

Great review peops, am gonna read these responses in a sec, Cariri's part has made me LOL a couple of times and am not done yet, ....all i am saying is same frustration, abantu baseKapa abanasimilo maan (capetonians do nt have a smile)tl tl....they did the same thing last year on a Joyous Show....i paid more for the front row..and there they were after buying cheap tickets....right infront of us...nx!

Mjay, thanks again for the tickets the show, it  was great. i had hopes of following it to PE and my friend has just told me she is leaving for Rhini,
i.e = pay for accomodation and a rental car = declined!

Zooming back to Friday: the show started late...so my lil sister thought it wud be fun to take close range photographs of us ...while the cam flashed away! Shooo embarrasing....eish loya mntana! I missed the part when Bra Zakes apologised or did he not??.

You wont believe ba uBraZakes kept on saying "kuyozwakala"......! Anywho....show was great Belinda was my star of the night, that gal sang her lungs out! I loved their trio of the "ndolulele isandla nkosi"

Charisma ministered and my friend was in tears in no time......i was warned by Madala about the Afrikaans and i did nt listen. There was a SHREK of a guy behind us, he was quiet the whole show until Charisma rocked that traditional song, hayke mntakabawo.....my poor friend was looking for an umbrella......ibiso excited laa ndoda....the mouth shower was turned on full.

There is no ways that cudda been a DVD, unless it was a real cheap DVD. You would need more cameras for a dvd, for sound and atmosphere. That was normal service cameras, even them use 1 extra hand held one for the band etc.

This one guy who was in the Top 30, really irked me. Especially after I decided to stop watching the screen and joined the masses at the foot of the stage.
He was jumping up and down, sweating all over the place, and his crack kept reminding me that I didn’t have a camera – phela I could’ve made him and the crack famous. Yerrr…

I bet you that was Luthando, he was there from as early as I could remember. With the Bangani gal (white shirt and jeans with a touch of red in the outfit). Maybe i saw you Cariri.

Where was ZIMKHITHA????? I missed her at that top 30 perfomance, she could have sanf "Humble your shelf by the shide of Lawd".

First & foremost…60+ & the blogger of this article, I apologise for not getting back to you on time. 60+ the PM you sent will not open. Article blogger the attachment you had there would not open as well. As of the TVSA email address I gave up cos I can’t even send out mails myself. Soke iyafana nengekho.

Hence am only resending this now as a copy n paste from word. Tash and collegues I hope you to take note of my complains ….lol. MJJ ta mfana like I said maobane.

Charisma….your performance was wonderful, for me you have the kind of voice that says “listen”……as of your skirt, angazi except to say bam’qhathile usisi (in KC’s voice). BTW nice braids, though at first glance I thought you had a black doek/scarf on…lol. Lol again @ you no Tshepiso nishaya eze late Vuyo M & sis Ribs’. Moves.

Lusanda….i see amablogger achazekile, as for mina your mom boosted you laphaya. Phela wena usakrasa, yes …remember you even touched your neck, at the realization. Nurture that voice period!

Sphu….you own istage with those dances zakho, ulahla nemilenze kuyele kuyele. And yes you were right, you best in those Zulu songs of yours. Ang’khali cause you sure did got me moving, phela I saw me sengisikazela ukusina…mind you I can’t.

Tshepiso….ungithusile (is’t because in my heart I always thought you’ll be better in another music genre?)…your duet with Charimsa ing’shayile.

Shannon(as underated as you are by many of us), you sooo can sing….. Belinda uthini na? uthi ushaya ipholas on stage(don’t you wanna move a bit).

I saw Sphumelelo on 1time to durban on saturday afternoon, she was sitting in row 1, seat A. Looked vaguely familiar and i thought she was someone i knew from way back. (didn't watch the show except last 3 episodes). It was only when we landed and i saw Lungisa then it clicked who it was. But get this, we had to wait at least 5 minutes for our luggage and the 2 weren't even talking, were standing on opposite ends of the carousel (sp). And when i was leaving, i saw Sphumelelo walking along the highway. They couldn't even organise her a shuttle.
