Raising The Bar

A new legal drama that centres round a group of young lawyers who were classmates and friends in law school, but now find themselves professional adversaries, working on opposing sides of the same case and facing off in the courtroom.

The show is made by the creators of NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues and LA Law.



Cashmere Mafia
Premiere date: Wednesday, 3 December 2008 at 19h30

Bound together by their educations and boardroom successes, four prominent Manhattan women -  Zoe Burden, Mia Mason, Juliet Draper, and Caitlin Dowd - are living the lives that others only dream of.

But their ambition comes at a price - though they consistently outpace their male colleagues and husbands in salary and title, they must watch out for scheming rivals who are eager to bring them down.

Juliet Draper is played by Miranda Otto, Zoe Burden by Frances O’Connor, Mia Mason by Lucy Liu and Caitlin Dowd by Bonnie Somerville.



Here Come The Newlyweds
Premiere date: Sunday, 7 December at 17h00

Seven newlywed couples compete for a $500 000 prize to help them realise their dreams. Here Come the Newlyweds is a reality show about the relationships, differences between men and women, and the universal issues that every couple must face.

The newlyweds include pairings such as high school sweethearts, a May-December couple, an arranged marriage, an interracial union and an Internet personals couple.

Each couple faces a variety of mental and physical challenges which, at their core, are tests of the kind of relationship the players really have. At the end of each episode, voting results will send one couple home, eventually leaving behind one couple who've proven they have the strongest union.



The Heart Is Beautiful
Premiere date: 11 December 2008 at 19h30

The Heart Is Beautiful is a four-part South African documentary series that focuses on heart transplant cases performed by Dr Susan Vosloo at the Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital.

The series follows the real life story of the Gird family, who's daughter needs a heart transplant. Filmed in real time, the series covers the family's wait for a heart donor - never knowing if it's going to happen or not.

As the series unfolds it follows the family's emotional and physical journey and the family's fate is revealed across the four episodes.



Samurai Girl
Premiere date: Sunday, 14 December 2008 at 18h00

Samurai Girl is based on a series of young adult novels which tell the story of a 19-year old Japanese girl named Heaven. She discovers that the wealthy businessman who adopted her as an infant is really the head of the Yakuza, the Japanese mafia, and may have had her beloved brother brutally murdered.

She breaks from her family and begins training to become a samurai and with the help of a group of new American friends, sets out to take down her father’s evil empire.

Men’s Health Look
Premiere date: Saturday, 6 December after the 20h00 movie

A three part special series that looks at the Men's Health 2008 competition. The series begins with the process hopefuls go through, the selection of finalists and ends with the announcement of the winner of the Men's Health title.

The finalists are chosen from around South Africa and taken to the Western Cape for an action-packed weekend before the final awards, which took place in Cape Town too.



Simply Red - Home in Sicily
On: Tuesday 16 December at 13h00

Simply Red - Home in Sicily was filmed in July 2003 at the outdoor Teatro Antico Di Taormina amphitheatre in Sicily.

Mick Hucknall and the band deliver a performance which features songs from their album Home - singles inlcude Sunrise, Fairground, Do The Right Thing and Stars.

This Enrique concert features songs including Tired of Being Sorry, Do You Know, Be With You, Bailamos and Hero.



Chris Brown from Sommet Centre

Grammy nominated Pop/R&B muso Chris Brown performs at Nashville’s Sommet Center as part of his Up Close & Personal Tour.



Royal Variety Performance 2008
On: Wednesday 31 December at 23h45

The annual UK New Year Variety performance featuring music, theatre, comedy, speciality acts and the queen. Host and performers are yet to be announced.

Isnt funny that a show actually moved from action to mnet, it's usually the other way! Cnt they find a better place for without a trace? It's the same with putting amazing race on a friday, tsk tsk!

Ouch. Without a Trace has a crappy slot. Has it always been that way?

It’s a great show – SABC2 is, of course, way behind so I think we’re only on S2!

And its kinda gratifying to see that even MNet airs crappy, quickly cancelled fare like Cashmere Mafia – aka Lipstick Jungle’s rival. At least LJ lasted 2 seasons.
